Mamas that were induced:

So it looks like I'll be getting induced either on Sat or Wed next week! My question to those that have been induced is how long did the whole process take? (Like from when you got admitted to when you had LO). How dilated/effaced were you going in?

If it took a long time, what did you do to kill the time? TIA!!

My water started leaking on a Thursday night at 9PM. They tried cervix softeners that night and all Friday, and then finally pitocin on Sat morning. I never made it past 1.5cm and passed out at one point with hypotension, so they did a c/s. She was born around 2PM on Sat. I hope yours goes much better than mine.

I was already admitted to the hospital before an induction was set-up. The night before my induction they gave me cervidil to soften up my cervix. I was 2 cm, 50% effaced, the baby was high, and I was 38 weeks and 2 days at the start of my induction. My induction started with them breaking my water at 8 am, I had my baby at 3:45 pm. I killed the time between 8 am and 3:45 laboring. I didn't have an epidural, so making it through the contractions and gearing up for the next one was all there was time for.

I went in the night before at half a centimeter to start cervidil.

Piotocin was started at around 6 or 7 and I was one centimeter. I stalled out at 4 around 1 p.m. until about 5 or 6 that night. 6 centimeters at 7, 7 cm at 8 and then 9 at 9. I started pushing at 10 p.m and he was born at 11:19.

Granted, I was only 36 weeks so it might have been a lot quicker if my body was somewhat close to ready to deliver, which it wasn't.

The biggest thing that helped me what staydol and the epidural. I was exhausted and both allowed me to get some decent rest during the day. Thanks to my epidural wearing off before delivery, I'm super thankful because I would have been too exhausted at that point.

From the time they started the process (7:30pm) to the time he was born was about 21 hours.  Active labor, though, which I would consider to have started when my water broke, was about 11 hours.

I was 0% dilated and 0% effaced when I went in; I was 37 weeks and induced for pre-e.

I went in and started the induction process at 8:00 AM. I was 1 CM when I went in. I started pushing around 1:00 PM and had her by 1:20. It went very quickly for me.

I was induced at 35w,4d with DS1 due to pre-e.  I was 0%, 0cm so we were starting from a clean slate.  I was admitted around 4pm on Thursday, cervix softener overnight, pitocin started that morning and water broken early afternoon.  DS was born on Friday at 8:30pm.  Overall, it went well, considering my complication and that it was early.

I relied heavily on my ipad and we watched the World Series :)

I went into the hospital at 10am on a Monday with an open capillary on my face and a nasty pregnancy rash. Totally random and weird, but inducing was the only cure to stop the capillary on my face from bleeding without burning it and scarring me. I was 40w3d
That afternoon I was admitted and given a nice big dinner, cervadil, and an ambien to sleep! I was 2 to 3cm 50 percent and pretty low when I was admitted. Pitocin started around 9am Tuesday, epidural 12:30 in the afternoon, baby born at 9:26pm after 2.5 hours of hard pushing and threat of csection. Over three years ago and I don't forget a single detail, lol. Everyone is different, but GL!

I was admitted with DD1 at 40w1d due to pre-e.  I was 0% and 0cm when admitted.  It took 34 hours from start to finish, 4 hours of that was pushing.

Induced at 41 w 4 days because of low fluid. 0cm and 0% effaced. Checked in around 2:30 pm started cervadil around 4:30. After 12 hours I was 1cm...lots of crying when I heard that.

Started with pit and got to 3 but stalled forever until I had an epi. Went from 3-9 rather quickly. Pushed for 40 min and had her at 3:50 pm. 3 babies were born in the room next to mine in the time it took me to have just one.

Overall it was a great experience....long but there was no stress from the doctor so we just went along with things,

My sister just went through this Monday, she was 8 days past her EDD less than 1 cm dilated. They started her on a medicine [I'm not sure the name but it's a "12 hour" drug before pitocin] at about 530 PM on Monday about an hour after she arrived at the hospital. She was given pitocin at 7 AM Tuesday had her son at 230 PM after 5 pushes.

Went in an 9am on Thursday and DS was born the next afternoon at 2pm. The first day I had little progress and woke up Friday morning finally with some progress. Pushed for about 2 hours. Friday could have been faster but they waited until I had my second dose of antibiotic before I pushed. Computer and TV kept me entertained.... and I went for a few walks to get things going....

55 hours. Induction started Monday night; she was born Thursday morning. I was not at all dilated, but I was 42 weeks.

I watched TV. Had some friends in. Slept. It was boring as shiit until Wednesday night.

Started the pitocin at 7:30, broke my water at 10am, got epi around 11:30, 10cms by 3pm but DS was still high so they had me labor down (meaning let the contractions push him lower) for a while. Started pushing around 4:20pm, DS was born at 4:42pm. No pain after epi, felt the pressure every time when I needed to push.

3.5 cm, 80% effaced. I watched TV and took a nap.

GL!

I was already 4 cm when I got to the hospital for my induction with DD. They started pitocin and I had her about 8 hours later. I had an epi, so I was pretty comfortable, so I had a lot of visitors during labor. That helped, as well as my room having a TV.

My water broke abt 130pm Tuesday afternoon and I made it to the hospital ar 245ish. They did an internal and i was 3cm. Hung out in triage until 5 when they moved me to LD and gave me pitocin. Asked for an epidural at 8 or 9pm bc the contractions were too strong and uncomfortable to bear if I wanted to get any sleep. Checked again and was abt 5cm. Got benedryl to help me sleep but only managed to nap bc of all the monitoring. Woke up abt 7am 8cm dilated and the promise that I could prob start pushing around 12pm. 1230 I was 10cm dilated and started pushing.... Carter came an hour later at 138pm. SO immediately ran across the street and got me a frosty from Wendy's and a chicken sandwich bc I hadn't eaten since 1230 the prior day. We passed the time watching the Maury show and other trashtastic tv, chatting with the staff and napping. I did get bored occasionally but it wasn't as often as you may think. This was also my first child so that may also be why it took 17hrs...

Noon, they broke my water.

He was born at 5:01 pm.

I went in on Sunday at 1cm and 80% effaced.  (I'd been having contractions ever 5ish minutes around the clock for more than two weeks at that point.) I had Cervadil Sunday and made no progress.  Started pitocin Monday and by Monday night I was 2cm and 90% effaced.  Same on Tuesday morning so they broke my water at 10 am and continued with the pit.  I started pushing at 6:45 pm.  DS was born after three hours of pushing. (He was face up and would not turn around no matter how many times the midwife stuck her hands up there trying to spin him so they ended up calling the OB in to use the vacuum to turn him around.) So 2 1/2 days from getting admitted to having a baby to hold.

I mostly panicked to kill the time.  (Kidding.  Sort of.) Read some junky magazines.  Honestly it's all a pretty big blur.

Went in at 2 pm for NST, ended up in L&D for monitoring cause his heart rate dropped, heart rate dropped again while in L&D so cervadil started about 8 pm.  My water broke on its own about 530 am, got epi about 6 am.  Dilated to 10 cm by noon, started pushing about 1 pm, he was born 443 pm.  I was 1-2 cm, 50% effaced when I went in.  So overall, took about 20 hours (which my OB said was very short for a 36/37 week induction).

Mostly, I tried to sleep, called people to chat since I was bored, chatted with DH, slept a little bit, and then about 515 pm had food for the first time in 29 hours.  Best chicken fingers and french fries I've ever had in my life.

I was 0cm, 0% when I went in for my induction.  We checked in to the hospital at 8pm, did Cytotec overnight.  I had no progress until after the final dose.  At 10am my OB came to check on me, I was 6cm so he broke my water and got the epi.  I started pushing at 2pm, DD was born at 4:53pm.  We did have some complications, but nothing was due to the induction.  As for killing time, overnight I tried to sleep it they checked on me so often I didn't get much sleep.  The next morning I talked to DH until after they broke my water, then there was no killing time because I was in labor.  We tried exercises to get her to turn (she was sunny side up), then it was time to push.

Oh yeah, I was 0 percent dialated when I went in, and they had to break my water the next morning. I couldn't do much because I was attached to all kinds of machines. I watched TV and even though I had an epidural it didn't fully work and on Saturday afternoon I kept having contractions and kept wanting to stand up, i did not want to lay down..so I would sit down, stand up, sit down, stand up all afternoon.

I was half a centimeter dialated when I was induced.  I was in labor for 28 hours.  But contractions were not unbearable until about half way through.  My husband and I watched tv to pass the time and had several visitors.

Good luck!  It's all worth it!

I was only 1cm dialated when induced on Monday night. Cervadil was place, I had dinner, and went to sleep. The cervadil helped me dialate 1cm more, so the next morning they started pitocin, gave an epidural, and broke my water. I stalled at 4cm and had a c-section that night. The whole process was about 24 hours.
