Universal Studios rides?

Hey there- just found out i'm pregnant (4w 5d) and my family is supposed to be going to Universal Studios Hollywood this weekend with my niece and nephews. Well, in looking at the website, most of the rides say "not appropriate for expectant mothers".  Even the ones that are just 4-D movies where the seat might move a little...

We were planning on telling the family about the pregnancy on Christmas b/c that is when DH's parents get into town. But, I feel like my family will think it's really weird that I am not riding any of the rides at the park.  What do you all think?

1. Would you ride the rides?

2. If not, would you explain to the fam why you aren't?

If it says not for expectant mother then I wouldn't ride it. For example I know that those small motions may not seem like a lot however on my pregnancy profile (something the army issues) it says no excessive vibrations for larger vehicles meaning I can't ride in and of the large tactical vehicles because the vibrations are not good for pregnancy. If there is a warning for it there is a reason.

No, I would not ride them. I would just tell your fam the truth.

Yeah- there's really no way i'd want to do something that could potentially be harmful when it took me so long to get pregnant in the first place!  will just have to tell them early.  thanks for your responses!

If you aren't ready to tell them the truth, you could always beg off and say your stomach is bothering you and you don't want to risk getting sick.

I have motion sickness even when not pregnant, so this would totally be a believeable excuse for me.

I went to Disneyland when I was barely pregnant.  The trip was planned way far in advance (it was my bff's 30th bday) and I had been looking forward to it.  It sucked to sit on a bench while everyone else rode rides, but hey, that's a sacrifice I was willing to make.  I wasn't hiding the pregnancy though- my bff was aware of what was going on.

I would tell your parents beforehand.

I'm a season pass holder so quite familiar. I think Terminator 4D should be okay. There's just one part where the seats raise up a few inches and then drop suddenly down -- definitely no more jarring than a sudden stop at a red light. It'd be a shame to miss the entire thing for just that part. Maybe you could ask to be seated in the handicapped area or to be warned when those parts are coming by a team member? If you don't feel comfortable, though, don't bother.

I'd just tell your family though because every single other ride -- Simpsons, Mummy, Jurassic, etc etc is off limits.

Hope you like shows -- there's Waterworld, the animal one (which is just ok), and some kiddie ones.

I haven't been to Universal Studios in a few years, but don't they have non-moving chairs in the 4D shows for pregnant women? I sort of remember hearing about them during both the Shrek and Terminator shows.

Yes they do. I've been to universal in florida Many times not sure if its the same as Ca. Personally I would do the 3d/4d rides and shows. The indoor roller coasters I wouldn't like the mummy. I plan on going to universal in a few weeks with two friends and will do the moderate rides.

I live in Orlando and am surrounded by theme parks. I wouldn't chance riding on a ride with a warning for expectant mothers. That being said, I personally would not be comfortable sharing my news when I was just 5 weeks long. So I'd make up an excuse about an sinus or inner ear infection. Having had a corporate event at Disney on a day I had a serious sinus infection I can tell you that riding rides when sick is horrendous.

Don't ride any rides!!!!   I work at an OB office and I am 4 weeks pregnant.  Every time someone calls the office about theme parks the doctor ALWAYS says NO!!  No matter what trimester you are in, it is NOT a good idea.

My husband got me season pass tickets during the 2WW and I knew, I just knew, that it'd be a waste because I wouldn't be able to ride anything. But you know how it is, during the 2WW you don't want to put your whole life on hold and all.

Thankfully we're locals, so he's happy to head over there just to get a burger in a cool setting and walk around a bit, and actually he doesn't like the rides anyway. Some of our friends worked on the Transformers ride, so too bad I didn't get to try that before getting pg.
