Bedtime

At what age did you start to push your LO's bedtime back? He has always gone to bed for the night between 10-10:30pm. But all of the sudden, he seems much more fussier in the evenings than usual. I'm thinking he might be ready for an earlier bedtime but how do you know?

He is 8 weeks adjusted but 14 weeks actual. I'm putting him to bed at 9:45pm tonight and seeing if that helps.

We've been doing bedtime from about 7 to 8ish for the past few weeks now - maybe 5? So right around the age your LO is. Some nights are a struggle, but most it goes well. DS Has just now started going longer stretches (6-8 hrs) for his first length of sleep. After that he'll wake every 3 hours.

Good luck - bedtime is tough. I find a routine is key.

Right before I went back to work, is when I started to adjusting her bedtime. At first it was just in 30 minute increments for about a week. She now goes to bed between 7:30-8 p.m. just like her big sister.

When she was that age, I followed her lead and put her down once she showed sleepy signs.  We would do her bedtime routine after dinner (so usually around 6:30 or 7), and by that point she was usually ready to sleep.

Routines can help a lot, and it's never too early to try to start one.  It can help your LO realize that it's time to start winding down for the night, and can help them relax.  Good luck!

You're LO is too little to have a set bedtime, IMO.  At that stage, DS was still eating on demand, so we would go from living room to bedroom around 8 p.m., give or take an hour, when he was hungry and put him to bed after eating.  I don't remember the age exactly that we started really getting a routine, but once he started eating at more regular times and sleeping for longer stretches at night, we started the routine and found the time that he seemed to be ready to go down for the night.  We've adjusted a few times as our schedules have changed and his needs changed.  GL!
