Xanthie

Hi we really like the name xanthie for our girl but we r worried it will be hard for people to pronounce so we r thinking of spelling it either Zanthie or Xanthie. Traditional spelling is Xanthe. Would appreciate people's thoughts on this and also if u think its a nice name.

It is NMS...it reminds me of Xanthan Gum.

I would say spell it the way it is supposed to be spelled and don't change the spelling

I like Xanthe (I'm a sucker for Greek names) but would absolutely not alter the spelling.

If I met a Xanthe, I would think it was super cool. If I met a Xanthie or especially a Zanthie, I would cringe, big time.

It's unusual, but I like it. :)

I prefer Xanthe. I'm not a fan of the other spellings.

I agree. Changing the spelling is a big mistake.

Spell it the way it's supposed to be spelled. You'll only have to correct people once or twice...or not at all if they have any classics background. 

And here's a big argument against the -ie ending: it belongs to a toddler. When your daughter is 30, do you think she wants that cutesy -ie ending when there's a sophisticated beautiful ending that's supposed to be there? No way.

Spell it Xanthe.  I really like it, by the way.

Spell it Xanthe. If people pronounce it wrong, they are the ones who look ignorant/unaware. If you spell it wrong, you and your husband are the ones who look ignorant. 

I think it's cool and I like it. It is unique in the good sense of the word- an actual, albeit uncommon, female name.

i have never heard the name before but i think it's kinda cool. generally i hate "x" names, but this one has a nice ring to it and doesn't really look like it's trying to be too trendy. i agree with PPs, i would spell it Xanthe.

Agree. Don't alter the spelling to cater to people who don't know better. Spell it correctly, explain it when needed. People will learn.

And honestly, no one I know would pronounce it X-an-The.
