Formula Moms: Do you boil water? If not what do you do?

I was wondering if we SHOULD be boiling water for formula feeds? I read somewhere that water for formula fed babies should be boiled. However hubby seems to think this is overkill, noting that boiling is only necessary if the water source is known to be contaminated. I have a filter that I use for our tap water but do I need to take an extra step and boil it too??? Does anyone here boil water?

I know the other alternatives are:

Bottled water which, from what I understand, is not recommended since 1) its not regulated and 2) chemicals from the plastic can leach into the water and

Nursery water, and I’ve heard very mixed things about this too. Hubby notes that nursery water is lacking in minerals that may be important for LO...and then there’s the flouride issue..

I asked my pedi and she said boiling wasn't necessary as long as we have city water. If you have well water you should boil.

We just use our city tap water.  Our pedi and hospital only recommend boiling or using nursery water if you have a well.

We have a well so we use nursery water but formula is packed full of nutrients so wouldn't anything missing from the nursery water be in the formula?

We have city water but we just buy nursery water and use that. We leave it out on the counter too so it's room temperature so I don't have to heat bottles.

We have city water too and our pedi told us just to use the filtered water on our sink.  Seems to be working fine for the LO!

We used distilled water for our LO when he was supplemented with formula - we don't have well water, but we do have high levels of floride, which pedi said wasn't good for LO's teeth before 6mo.

Let me preface my answer with this:  our city has some of the cleanest water in the country to start with, then the water filtration system for the city is one of the most high-tech also.  So our water is kind of amazing.

That said, our pedi said as long as we're on city water, there's no issue with using plain tap water.  If we were on well water, she'd want it tested.  When we're out and I'm using the powdered formula, I use tap water in an Aquafina bottle.

You could always just use ready-to-feed formula, then you wouldn't need to worry about the water at all.

We use bottled water, that is what our pediatrician recommended because our city water automatically adds fluoride.

We are on a well, and have a UV lamp.  Pedi said this makes the water fine to use.

Thanks everyone for your responses!

How do you determine how high the level of flouride in your water is? Do you ask your water company? What's considered a "high level"??

Regarding the comment to use ready to feed formula, for some reason it does not suit LO at all. He spits up all of it every time - oddly enough powdered formula suits him better....

We did the Gerber water for the first 6 months because it doesn't have flouride.  Then we switched to the Nursery Water.  But from what I understand regular tap water is just fine.  I was paranoid.
