I work at an OB-GYN office. AND I'm 4 weeks pregnant. All OB doctors do things differently, but in my office, If you have an Ultrasound too early you can't really see anything but a tiny shadow that is the sack.  Way too early for a heart beat.  I know you are anxious (and so am I) But it will be worth the wait, because once you see the heartbeat, the risk of miscarriage is LOW.  Good luck to you Big Smile

Some doctors do one at 8-10 weeks, and some don't You should get an anatomy scan around 20 weeks.

My ultrasound is the same day!! That's the day I get to hear and see my little babies heartbeat so you should be able too also on the 9th. Ask your OBGYN to give you one anyways if he doesn't say anything about it.

Most likely since you did have one in the ER you wont get another one until your 20 week anatomy scan. If you really want pictures before then try googling for a local imaging center. your insurance doesnt cover it but they usually will take pictures and dvd.

Depends on your practice. Call and ask them.

My doctor did a transvaginal ultrasound at 8 weeks and 5 days.

Depends. Some do one every visit. Some do only 1 at 20 weeks.

Unless there is some reason to suspect a problem (Bleeding, previous history of m/c etc.) my ob only does the A/S at 20 weeks.  And the optional one around 11-13 weeks to check for measurements and DS if you want it.

Every place is different.  My OBGYN does ultrasounds at 7 weeks.  I was so happy he didn't make me wait until after Christmas.  I got tons of pictures of my "bean"

So instead of spending $5 on a pregnancy test, you went to the ER and spent at least 100 times that much? You rock at finances.

Only people that need on in first trimester are those with a history of losses, infertility, or very long cycles. If you are fortunate enough to not fall into one of those categories, you have no reason to expect one prior to 20 weeks unless you opt into the NT scan which many insurance policies do not cover unless you have legit reason to do it. Most women do not- if you did, you would already know that you did. Some offices will do one early, but you should not expect one.

My OB is really anti non medically necessary u/s and does a 20 week a/s only. She doesn't have in office equipment and the scan is done at the hospital.

I can opt in for the 11-13 week n/t scan if I so choose. That's also done at a hospital.
