Third degree episiotomy healing question

So ten days ago I gave birth to my first child, a little girl [woo hoo!!!!!], and ended up having a third degree episiotomy. I took it easy the first week and lived in my living room rather than using stairs. DH and I just moved back upstairs to our bedroom, so I guess I've been putting a bit more strain on it, because it seems like my bleeding is a little heavier within a few hours of making the trip up. Did you ladies notice your bleeding change from heavier one day to very light the next? Also, how long did the stinging on your lady bits when you urinate last? I've been running water over my area when I go to the bathroom, but it doesn't relieve it completely. Thanks!

I think I would gush a bit with movements or any kind of stress but mine wasn't for that long, about 3 weeks if I remember correctly. I tore naturally though so I don't know if it makes a difference since you had an episiotomy. My MW told me to put honey on it to heal it quicker and it did. Also, have you tried witch hazel pads or just an ice pack to help with the pain/stinging?

You're supposed to be resting for a few weeks so if you start bleeding heavily again, I would try to limit the amount of strenuous activity you do and just lounge around for a bit. GL mama

There might be more women on the Babies: 0-3 Months board that can help answer your question since most of us here are still pregnant. Good luck!

This!  Between rinsing, dermaplast spray, witch hazel pads on top of your maxi pad, and warm baths I had quite the bathroom routine.  I had a 4th degree episiotomy and this routine was the only thing that kept it bearable.  I also got checked a couple days post birth and the stitches were stretching from crossing my legs, so I had to be cautious of that.

I am just lurking, but I unfortunately also had a 3rd degree tear (had a vacuum assisted birth) and I want to say it was maybe 3 weeks before I could sit without wincing and pee without stinging.  I second the PP that suggested Dermoplast.

One thing that really helped me was one of those hemorrhoid pillows-- it was a round foam shaped pillow with a hole in the middle.  That really took the pressure off while I was healing-- so just wanted to throw that out there.

Also, you will experience heavier blood flow when you increase your activity-- so take it easy for a while!

All this! ^^ I had a 4th degree tear with DS1 and a 3rd with #2, I did all this and never had one problem and no pain whatsoever. and with DS2 he was in the special care unit for 7 days so I was running back and forth from the hospital and home to see my oldest and was staying at the hospital at nights so I had to do all this in the public restroom of the hospital....it works. GL and hope it gets better soon!

3rd/4th degree tear here.  It was probably a month before I started being able to sit/pee without wanting to cry.  And yes, when I did more, I bled more. I tried to take it easy as much as possible.

And ditto PP, get the donut pillow!  They're like $15 at the pharmacy and a lifesaver!
