Betas...WTF

Soooooo, my clinic does 2 betas and then calls after the 2nd one, which was today for me.  I've been taking HPT as early as 7dp3dt, with the most recent being this morning at 12dp3dt.  All have been negative.  So this week has been a huge diseaster already (whoever said beta or bust is wise!), but I was pretty prepared to get bad news today.

Well, the results weren't completely negative.  My first beta (Wednesday) was 3, which they consider to be negative.  My second (today) was 6.6, which doubled and they consider to be positive.  W.T.F.  I of course asked about it being this low at this many days past transfer.  My nurse said that while it is lower than they like to see, it did double and they have seen a beta of 5 later than this turn into a healthy pregnancy.  She also mentioned that it could be a chemical pregnancy.

I don't even know what to think.  I'm terrified to get my hopes up and pissed off that I can't get another beta until next Thursday (they are closed Mon-Wed).  Hold me lol!

ETA:  Thought of a question.  If my beta is considered positive, does that mean that no matter what happens next that an embryo implanted?  Can an embryo not implant and still produce HCG?

Oh how frustrating!  I have my fingers crossed for you.  And at least by Thursday the number should be more definitive?  Still, that's so long to wait!  And, if you choose to keep taking HPTs, hopefully you'll get a positive there soon, which should make the wait more bearable.

I hate this for you! To answer your question, yes I think an embryo has to implant to produce hcg. Praying for a late implanter!!

9/2012 -- Lap#2 to remove endo and Hysteroscopy

I'm so sorry. That sounds like quite the mind *$&*@$! I really hope your #' keeps doubling! I do think that no matter what, it means the embryo implanted. My beta was 7, and they told me it was a chemical, meaning the embryo was trying to implant, but it just wasn't a good enough embryo to continue growing. Best of luck, and I hope you get good news next week. I can't believe you have to wait until Thursday, ugh!!!

Me (33)- unexplained MH (35)- MFI due to Vericocele. Straight to IVF w/ICSI 9/12, Antagonist = BFN c/p, poor quality blasts, tested sperm dna fragmentation. Results all good, yay! New RE for IVF #2- 1/13., Long Lupron. ER on 1/22 -10R, 9M, 9F. Transfer on hold due to overstimming. FET in Feb. 2 frozen blasts. Another BFN & another c/p. RPL testing all negative besides MTHFR gene, vericocle repair surgery 4/12/13-Bilateral Grade 3 Vericocele found & fixed, IVF #3 with PGS 4/13- 11R, 9M, 9F. Don't want to create a whole new post yet, but I have an update on my beta hell situation.  I finally got a BFP on a Wondfo and a FRER today at 14dp3dt.  I'm hoping that means my levels are still rising and maybe my embie just implanted late.  I think the threshold for HCG on a Wondfo is 20, and from what I read it takes longer for urine to show HCG than blood so it could be higher than that.  So my HCG level has to be at least 20 today, which is more than doubling from my measly 6.6 on Friday.  I know I have a long way to go and there is still a very high chance of a non-viable pregnancy or etopic, but as of today I'm more pregnant than I've ever been.  Woot!

That seems like a positive thing to me! Hopefully you're just a late implanter and everything is just early right now. Keep us updated. I have my FX for you

TTC #1 for Dh, #2 for me. HSG clear. Low AMH and endo. Multiple Clomid w/TI cycles - all BFNs. 2 IUIs with Clomid and 1 with Femara - more BFNs. IVF#1 25R, 15M, 15F. 5DT of two perfect 4AA blasts! Positive HPT at 5dp5dt. Beta #1 6dp5dt - 72. Beta #2 8dp5dt - 285. Beta #3 10dp5dt - 793. Both babies have strong beautiful heartbeats! Baby B miscarried at 7 weeks. Baby A is holding on through miscarrying her twin, sub-chorionic hematoma, and complete placenta previa. Stick, baby, stick!
