If you have a cleaning service...

Do you find that it really helps you keep up on things?  DH is really for spending the extra money on a cleaning service, but I'm nervous he thinks that it's going to mean our house is constantly spotless.  With a 3 year old and a 5 month old baby, I don't really see how a cleaning lady is going to do much for me since my house is pretty much impossible to keep immaculate, which I think DH would expect if we are dropping $100-200 a week on a cleaning lady.

I guess I just want some input on why you have the service and if you are a stay at home mom, does is still help you keep up on things when you are constantly in the house?

TIA!

My DH got me a cleaning lady right before I had DD. She comes every other Monday. Overall, it helps out a lot, but it doesnt mean that I dont have to clean everyday. We all know that a house with kids needs constant tidying. It is very helpful that she does the tasks that took me forever in the past...mopping the whole house, cleaning the bathrooms, etc. Yeah, there is always laundry, dishes and toys to be picked up, but having her help with the "big jobs" gives me more time to spend with my DD.

I still have to tidy around the house everyday, do dishes, laundry, etc. but at least I don't have to try and squeeze cleaning in there too. I started using the cleaning lady again towards the end of my pregnancy and she is still coming now. There is NO WAY I could even think about cleaning the house with a 3 year old and newborn. Someone is always needing something!

My house is still a disaster at the end of the day even with a cleaning lady. However I don't ever feel like I need to scrub toilets bath tubs or most of the time even dust or vacuum.

I just have to pick up all the toys clothes dishes laundry wipe down sticky counters etc.

DH does think that the house should stay cleaner than it does but that is just life with kids.

I would give up many many other things before I would give up my cleaning lady!

I work part-time.  Our cleaning service comes every 2 weeks.  I think it is money well spent.  I love having someone else come clean my house so DH and I don't have to worry about it.

This is us exactly.  I still have to do every day work to keep the house up, but it's light housekeeping.  I think where it also helps is every two weeks we start out with a 'clean slate', so you have motivation to keep it up, plus right before the house cleaners come, I clean up what has started to accumulate.  So you have the motivation of wanting your house to remain clean after it's put in perfect order and then the secondary motivation of tidying up before they come so they can really get a deep clean of the house.

I work FT but love ours and may switch to once a week after # 2 arrives, we do e/o week now.  She does the major stuff, 2.5 baths, sweeps, mops, vacs and generally tidy up.  Worth every penny to us.

It depends on your money situation. If you are giving up something else that you think is necessary, I say live with the mess. If you can afford the small luxury, definitely go for it. We have someone come every other week, $100 a pop, and believe me, when I come home and my house smells like lavender, and the floors don't have dust bunnies, and the clothes have been put away, I want to cry. I hate having to clean toilets and mop floors, so having someone else do it is amazing. With a full time job, two kids, a dog and a cat,  and DH who doesn't "do" housework, its hard to keep up with our house.

Ditto to all the above. DH jokes that I clean for the cleaning lady but I'm really just picking up and putting things away so she can scrub her little heart out. It's cheaper than marriage counselling for us since I was asking for DH's help and he was resenting it (back when I worked full-time). Now have 2 girls, baby #3 on the way and work part-time. Still completely worth it in my book.

We don't pay for an actual cleaning service, but my mother helps out. She is retired and comes to the house every two or three weeks to clean our bathrooms, sweep, etc. I try to pay her but she often won't take it. So, I just give her money to help her out when she decides to take a trip. Do you know anyone that could use the extra money and might give you a good deal?
