Bed Rest Question

Hi all,

I'm new here, on bed rest for the immediate future. I was in the hospital for 3 nights being treated for preterm labor, then released on bed rest until my appointment on Monday.

What are your bed rest orders? How often/long can you be on your feet? I feel like such a jerk getting waited on hand and foot. My husband and inlaws are being SO good to me, but how much do they really need to baby me? I'm sure it's different for everyone, esp. depending on the reason why you are on bed rest in the first place.

TIA!

I am 31 weeks and on strict bed rest at the hospital. I am in for a shortened or nonexistent cervix and I was 1cm dilated upon admission, 6 weeks ago. I can only get up to go to the restroom and I can take a short shower every other day. I just got 30 minute wheelchair ride privileges everyday. I know it's feels like people are babying you, but don't hesitate to accept all the help you can get. My in-laws love to feel needed and it makes them happy that they can help us.

I wish you all the best with the remainder of your pregnancy. :)

I'm sorry you're on bed rest!

I know how hard it is to let people take care of you, but remember that this is about your health and the health of your baby. Let people help you and try to enjoy it.

I'm only supposed to get up to go to the restroom, take a short shower and I'm allowed to make myself a quick lunch while my husband is at work. I do occasionally cheat, but I always regret it.

Talk to your doctor if you're unsure about anything.

I'm in the same boat. I am 26 weeks annd I have been in the hospital for 31 days now. Restroom privileges, 5 minutes showers, and 30 minutes wheelchair rides. Otherwise, I am horizontal. I sit up to eat but it's right back down when I'm finished. It's not the easiest thing in the world but its working! Can't argue with that. I was in active labor over four weeks ago, thinking I was going to delver a very young baby, now our outlook is a much more positive one. My advice is listen to your doctor and accept all the help you can get! Best of luck to you and your LO!

Thanks everyone!

I don't mind being babied too much, or accepting the help. I was just hoping that I could do just a little more. I am very grateful to be on best rest at home. I feel for you ladies sticking it out at the hospital!
