humidifiers for baby's room

Should I buy a humidifier for the baby's room? Is it safe to use right from the

beginning? Hot or cold mist?

We have a cool mist humidifier.  It's one of those purchases that when you need it, you need it now, so I think it's a good idea to have one, even if you don't use it right away.

I'm glad we have one but I'd do a lot of research, the one we have [Crane Drop] is really hard to keep free of mold... like really hard, I clean the thing every day and it still builds up in the little cracks.

DH and I both has asthma and allergies so we have both cool and hot mist. We already have one on everynight. Ours are the vicks ones, so if anything, we will just ditch the vicks when he's here, just in case the vicks bothers him.

We have a cool mist. I got it for the baby, but I've been using it myself since we turned the heat on in the fall.

We have a Vicks one and have the same problem. It's really disgusting and you really dont want alll of that crap being circulated onto the air. We bought a warm mist one from the drug store and it works SO much better. It also stays clean. I get the safety concern but until DS is no longer in a crib, I'm not going to worry about it.

We have had a warm mist Vicks since DD was an infant. I kept it on the other side of the room from her bed. Its been super easy to keep clean, as long as you are cleaning it out regularly.

Even as a toddler who can get in and out of her bed on her own, she has never wanted to touch it or go near it. We even have a Scentsy candle in her room and she never touches that. So I get that warm mist has the risk of getting burnt with the warm water but keep it out of reach and there won't be an issue.

I got the exact same one at Walgreens for the new baby.

We have a Crane elephant cool mist one for DD's room and it's great.  We put the demineralization cartridge in it and only use distilled water and rarely have a mold problem.  It's definitely safe from the beginning.

We just brought a cool mist one from wally world yesterday that was on sale for $26, and I tried it out at the request of my OB last night and had a great nights sleep, its the first time in about 6 weeks i have woken up and still been able to breath. When the baby gets here we plan to us it in the nursery or buy another that doesn't need a filter, if this one works out ok.

We live in a super humid area, and never thought we would need one, but the first time DS got sick, we realized we did. Cool mist all the way. We didn't need one till DS was 20 months old, and it was nothing to run out to the drug store and get one. You could buy one now, but if you don't use it for a long time, and then you have problems with it, you might not be able to return or exchange it.

I have 2 of these and we have super hard water here and I haven't had any problems with that at all. I don't even clean it right away sometimes because I'm lazy. A little vinegar and water clears anything right up.

We had a regular humidifier that we received as a present, but we ended up purchasing a cool mist humidifier. We just use it when DD needs it.
