27 Random Acts of Kindness. Who's with me?

Inspired by the horribly tragic events at Sandy Hook, my family and I will complete 27 random acts of kindness this week. Any ideas for what we can do? Money is tight so I don't want to have to spend a ton.

I saw this on the news this morning! I wanna say Robin from GMA kinda started it on twitter. So if you are on twitter you can check out their ideas and what others have done. Or I'm pretty sure there is a facebook page as well about this! It sounds like a great idea and I'm trying to think of ideas as well! I know someone did 27 stuffed animals for a children s hospital. Maybe if you got 27 toys or boxes of crayons/coloring books from the Dollar Store? I know when my niece was in the NICU for a month, the toys that were in her room, went either home with them or had to go in the garbage. They never reuse toys because of disease issues. She had pneumonia, bronchitis and Toxic Shock Syndrome so she was quarantined.

If you're out shopping, flag someone down and give them your parking spot.

If you're in line for coffee, buy the order of the person behind you.

Give to your local food bank.

Let someone go ahead of you in line at the grocery store.

Give a thank you gift to someone who usually doesn't get recognized - mail carrier, bus driver, cafeteria lady, garbage collector, etc.

I was in the Starbucks drive-thru this morning, and there was a nice little "Pay It Forward" going on...and I kept it going by paying for the person behind me! Start something like that in a drive-thru if it's not already going on. This is REALLY small, but at work the other day, I put $.75 in the vending machine already so the next person who wanted a drink would already have it paid for. Of course, I left a cute little note and wrote "Pay it Forward" on it to keep it going. It's a very small gesture, but that's something easy you could do!

Thanks everyone for the great ideas! I wrote up a little note that says:

0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}

Merry Christmas!

This random act of kindness was inspired by the tragic loss of the 27 beautiful lives in the Newtown shooting.

We hope that you will continue to make the world a better place in their memory by doing something kind for someone else.

Today we paid for the person behind us in the Dunkin Donuts drive through and I had the cashier give them this note. We also did the same thing at the car wash. I hope you all join me!

I love that you're doing 27. A lot of what I've heard people doing revolves around the number 26 because people aren't counting the mom. She's a victim too, and I think it's great that you're including her in your count. And you're awesome for doing this :

The ideas mentioned are all great. What about looking on your town's website to see some ideas of local charities and see what you could do with those? You could donate blood, adopt a family, go through your LOs old clothes and toys and bring them to a women's shelter.
