Well, that was a kick in the teeth

Got a phone call from the nurse and I could tell right away it wasn't going to be good. Of the 22 eggs retrieved, 17 of which were mature, only three made it to freeze. When I asked the embryologist about quality later, she said, "well, they're fair. Not terrible."

I felt sick to my stomach. I had to cancel the transfer even though I didn't wind up developing OHSS (though who knows if I'd transferred, I suppose), the cycle was a nightmare and they ICSI'd our eggs w/o consent. All to get worse results, much worse, than with my first fresh cycle.

I know there are people who would die to have three fair-quality embryos so I don't have much to complain about when you get right down to it. But I had my hopes so high after that retrieval!

We're driving away from that clinic like Thelma and Louise, and taking the embryos with us. I don't know if it was the egg quality, the protocol change, the ICSI we didn't want or a sloppy lab, but this cycle just blew complete chunks. 

Yeesh.


TTC #1 for about 3.5 years
ME: 37, PCO, immune issues?, teflon uterus (my added diagnosis)
HIM: 38, Perfect. (Showoff.)
Month before starting Clomid, spontaneous pregnancy. m/c at 7 weeks and D&C.
Four months of Clomid, one IUI, with Intralipid each cycle: BFNs all
IVF 1.0 July 2012 -- Lupron, bravelle, menopur, estrogen, progesterone supps, intralipid. 14 ER, 14 fertilized, 1 blast transferred, 2 on ice. BFN
FET 1.1 -- 10/2, transferred our 2 blasts. Lupron, PIO, estrogen, baby aspirin, prednisone. BFN.
IVF 2.0 December 2012 -- Bravelle, Menopur, Ganirelix, Prednisone, Metformin, estrogen, progesterone supps. 22 eggs retrieved on 12/14, 17 mature, 15 fertilized. OHSS anticipated so ET cancelled. 3 embryos frozen.
Broke up with old RE. Moving on to new dude. Maybe the change of scenery will be just the trick for our frosties. On BCPs for possible April FET.

Yeah I got the "they are ok but the odds aren't good" speech on mine too.  It sucks.  They put both that survived so far back in.  I have none to freeze.  IF sucks.  It is just not fair at all.  I am so sorry that you have to go through all of this.

Ultrasound 1/10 - Nothing completely empty uterus Beta 1/14 - 743; Beta 1/17 - 1704 ultrasound shows nothing. Officially a miscarriage. 1/21 Beta 3900 Dr. says it ectopic. Ultrasound shows a miracle heartbeat right in the uterus where it belongs! Dr. says I can be cautiously optomistic!!! Hang in there baby!

4/12: 50mg Clomid= BFN
6/12: IUI #1: 50mg clomid/ovidrel/progesterone= BFN
7/12: IUI #2: 2.5mg Letrozole/ovidrel/progesterone= BFN.
8/12: 2.5mg Letrozole + progesterone = BFN.
9/12: lap / hysteroscopy: found and removed mild endometriosis, cervical polyp, and 2 para-tubular cysts
10/12: 2.5mg letrozole = No response :(
11/12: IUI #3: 5mg letrozole/ovidrel/progesterone=BFN
12/12: IUI #4, 5mg letrozole/Menopur/ovidrel/vivelle/progesterone= BFN
5/13 IVF #1: Follistim, Menopur, Ganirelix

I'm so sorry. I know how you feel. My ER was on 12/4. We had 27 eggs, 20 mature, 15 fertilized w/ICSI (all perfect on day3), and we ended up with 4 blasts to freeze.  Thank goodness we didn't have a fresh transfer because I developed moderate OHSS. We have MFI and my egg quality is good so my doc said it was probably due to DNA fragmented sperm or possibly but highly unlikely a lab issue. My center is considered to have one of the best labs in the world.

I'm so sorry.  I know what crappy cycles feel like.  I had 16 eggs retrieved and had 2 make it...  feels like a big kick in the chest.  Big (HUGS) to you!
Me; 35 DH 32 TTC for over 2 years First mini-IVF Sept 2011... Only 1 egg! ... BFN Switching RE IVF#2 May 2012 9 eggs and only 2 sperm, WTH! BFN IVF#3 Chemical... FML. 2 frosties. SAIF/PAIF ALWAYS WELCOME!!!!!

Did you ever get response from them on the ICSI thing? Surely they had an explanation?? And definitely not going to charge for it I assume?

DX: DH (30) severe MFI, severely low count & low motility
Me (32): all clear
Appt with Urologist 5/21/12: exam, ultrasound, bloodwork all normal.
Testicular Biopsy with TESE on 6/8/12. good sperm found! (left side only) froze sperm, failed thaw test :(
Orientation for IVF/ICSI on 6/13/12. Waiting for the green light following biopsy results...results show adequate sperm production both sides.
2nd SA 6/18/12: sample is "adequate for ICSI"
Plan: IVF/ICSI July 2012!
ER: 7/26/12. 15 eggs retrieved, all mature.
TESE/TESA/aspiration from epididymis, no motile sperm found :(
froze all eggs, the saga of praying for good sperm continues.
8/3/12: 2nd opinion from MFI uro on biopsy slides. Suspects "partial late maturation arrest."
Plan: more SAs, third biopsy/TESE with frozen back-up either from DH or DS.
SA 8/17/12: Zero sperm
SA 8/23/12: Zero sperm
9/26/12: SPERM FOUND! 15 eggs thawed, 12 survived and were ICSI'd, only 3 fertilized normally. Refrozen as embies and will thaw in Nov. Please survive and grow!
All 3 survived the thaw on 11/15/12!
FET 11/17/12: transferred 2, one 4B, one 4C. Beta 11/30:BFFN
moving on to DS
DIUI#1 2/18/13,50mg Clomid cd 3-7, Ovidrel trigger, Beta 3/4/13: BFN.
DIUI#2 3/19/13, 50 mg Clomid cd 3-7, Ovidrel trigger, Beta #1 (14dpiui) 4/2/13: BFP!!!! 150. Beta #2 4/4/13: 420 Beta #3 4/8/13: 2691. Beta #4 4/15/13: 15,086
1st u/s 4/8/13 shows one gestational sac
2nd u/s 4/15/13 shows yolk sac, fetal pole and early heartbeat
3rd u/s 4/25/13: measuring right on track. Heart rate 148 bpm

4/5 lap revealed blocked left tube, but right tube is open
April/May- 50 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI #1= CANCELLED left ovary ovulating
June 1- 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI #1 = BFN
June 28- 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI #2 =BFP!
7/12 Beta #1= 14 Beta #2= >5 Chemical Pregnancy :(
July-Nov long break to recover emotionally and financially
Nov 24- 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI #3= BFN
Jan 22- Gonal-F + Ovidrel + IUI# 4 = CANCELLED no response on right
