UGH DH has the flu!

And guess who hasn't had their flu shot... Ugh. Strange thing is that DH did get a flu shot! I'm getting one at the OB on Monday. So, DH has to stay at his parents' house for at least tonight and tomorrow... We haven't done hardly any Christmas shopping; not to mention I may not be able to even see him until Christmas Eve : I'm pretty upset to say the least. I wish he had gone to the doctor earlier this week when he wasn't feeling well instead of going to work today feeling like crap... This sucks!

Just a thought...if DH got the flu shot over two weeks ago, there is a good chance he caught a strain not included in the shot. If you get the flu shot, it will take up to two weeks to develop antibodies/immunity. During those two weeks, your body is busy making antibodies to the (dead) viruses in the shot. My worry would be that getting the shot now right as you are exposed to poor DH's flu might actually make you more likely to catch it, as your body is already working hard to fight the three dead viruses in the shot. It certainly won't provide any protection from this particular threat. But I am not a immunologist, and these are just my theories. (Except for the two weeks to build immunity, that one is fact.) Maybe ask your doc the best course of action?

If he hasn't been feeling well for a while, you have probably already been exposed. I did read an article debunking the idea of pregnancy causing a low immune system, and you are probably taking plenty of vitamins, so I would focus on getting lots of sleep, drinking extra water, and maybe a little extra vitamin C/D. Hopefully you won't catch whatever he has, and you can have a happy healthy Christmas.

I hope your DH feels better soon, and I hope you don't catch it, and get a chance to do your shopping!

I am sorry that your DH is not feeling well. Boo! It does take the flu shot something like 4 days to take in effect. Ask your dr for the exact time frame. I hope you don't get it.

This! I wouldn't risk getting the shot especially if he caught a strain not included in the shot, it won't protect you from getting it and could make you more likely to get it because you have already been exposed before he started showing symptoms.

Wow I had no idea! I'm definitely going to let my OB know what's going on so we can take the best course of action. His doc said something about putting me on a preventative course of Tamiflu, so we'll see what my OB says about that as well. Knock on wood, I feel fine currently... I've been super OCD about hand washing and sanitizing all week, so hopefully that helps!
