Our baby boy is here!!!

Actually, he arrived on Tuesday but I didn't get around to positing...but here is the story:

Tuesday started out as normal day. We had a doctors appointment at 9:30 for a non-stress test and and a sonogram to check fluid levels. An appointment a week before had me not dilated at all and 50%effaced.

We got there on time and we learned that the there was very little to no fluid and we would have to be induced. She also noticed on sonogram that the cord might be around the baby's neck.  The doctor said we could go in that day, or Wednesday but she didn't want me wait any longer than that. After a quick discussion DH and I decided to go in on Tuesday. We called his brother and asked him to bring the camera and carseat (we had installed the base but didn't think to grab the carseat for a doctors appointment), since its a 2.5 hour drive to the doctor/hospital we didn't want to drive home for 2 things.

I was admitted to the hospital at 12:30. During admission I had made all the phone calls and all the family so they could start driving to the hospital. My DH had not eaten at all at this point, so when after they inserted the little pill, I told him to go eat. Odds were this would take a while since I wasn't totally effaced and was only dilated to a 3... I figured we had lots of time. So he went to get food.

1:30ish, the room fills with nurses. They put me on my side and on oxygen and proceeded to tell me that the baby's heart rate is slowing down and they had called my doctor and they wanted to prep me for a C-Section.

 I'm alone in a hospital room at this point and I am still shocked I didn't have a total panic attack. I called my husband who rushed back.

2:15 they roll me into the OR. At 2:27 the anathesialologist came in and gave me the spinal and we got started. My husband was brought in and just kept telling me it was ok, and that I was ok. At some point my doctor said, "oh wow, it was a double cord!" And in my drug induced panicked state I had to ask what that was. Apparently the doctor had seen something on the sonogram, the cord was around the baby's neck TWICE!!

At 2:50pm, he was born. Jason Pierce was 7lbs, 7oz and 19.5" of perfection.

My husband got to hold him and brought him to me. I thought I knew what kind of father my husband would be...I wasn't even close. He is phenomenal. We came home on Thrusday and have been adjusting to life as family. 

My recovering from the csection has been great...or at least nothing like I thought it would be. They only thing I still try to avoid doing is coughing, as that is ridiculously painful.

Overall, I am doing great, and I would change nothing about my labor & delivery. Especially since I went 38 weeks of a pregnancy and never got sick, never had a contraction and have a beautiful baby boy.

Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking why did they do the non stress test and check the fluids? My appointments just consist of measuring me and listening to the heart rate and its making me crazy wondering what is going on in there.

Congratulations!

I just had a NST because I thought LO hadn't been moving as much...where they also checked fluid levels. Otherwise it's been measuring etc...

They did the non-stress tests because of me. At 32 weeks I spent a few days in the hospital because of pain. It turns out I was having kidney and gall bladder issues that caused the pain. I had been having non-stress tests for weeks since the pain never went away, but was manageable. 

And checking the fluid levels is something that I thought they did at 38 weeks for everyone...
