Is it necessary to have alcohol at a child's family bday party?

I don't think it's necessary or the norm. I've been to a child's party that served alcohol but only once. That said
, it doesn't bother me.

Not necessary, not expected, but if you want to, go for it. If you don't, no big deal either. If someone expects it, they're crazy.

The only kids' party that I've ever been to that served alcohol was for the biggest pot head and alcoholic kid's first birthday that my DH knows.  What a combo those parents are.  It's generally not done where I am from, because it's a kid's birthday.

It isn't necessary to have alcohol at ANY party.  Unless it is an alcohol themed party, like a wine tasting night, or beers around the world or something.

No, it's never necessary. That said, if you want to have it, and think your guests will drink it, go ahead. I don't find it inappropriate for adults to have a drink or two. It's not like the kids are drinking it or parents are getting smashed.
