Is this the end of BFing?

Extended BFers: DD is 19m. She got a bad cold about 10 days ago. The congestion made it so she can only breathe through her mouth. So she would try to BF and couldn't, since she couldn't breathe. So she would hold my nipple with her teeth, which wasn't cool. When she bites, I end the session and put her down. I tried nursing her once a day i used to nurse her 24 times a day and it only lasted for 5 seconds before she started biting me.

So I haven't really nursed her in over a week. When a kid is that old and doesn't nurse for two weeks or so, will they go back to it, or is that the end? She still gets 12 bottles of pumped milk a day.

Wondering of this is the end of drinking from the tap...

Haha, I was really amazed by the 12 bottles a day! One to two sounds more reasonable, though ; If she is okay with not nursing now and doesn't seem miserable about stopping, I would personally probably stop. Ive read that it can be difficult to wean a toddler and if she seems content with just the pumped milk, I wouldnt encourage nursing any longer. Especially if she is a biter! Great job on nursing so long, though! If you crave the close time, I would replace it with lots of cuddles!

I think it's probably up to you.  If you want to continue, I bet you could get her to come back to it.  If you are ready to wean, then this would seem like a perfect time.  Good luck with whatever you decide!

I agree with this.DS1 still nurses, but he went 8 days without when DS2 was born. He went back to it without skipping a beat.

You had me really laughing on that one! I was thinking 12 bottles? Holy cow! I can only get DD to drink 1 to 2! Anyways, agreements with everyone else. If you are ready, sounds like it's a good time to wean. I weaned DD at 13 months when she started screaming when I tried to offer it to her. I think it was harder on me than her.

I'm thinking that maybe your LO is done. But I'm still nursing here and have never weaned before. But I think if you are ready to be finished and you follow "don't offer, don't refuse," you could be finished.

DS self-weaned at 19 months when my supply started to change due to pregnancy. It was bittersweet for me, but kind of liberating to have him done! :) She might go back, but at that age, for him at least, he seemed pretty content to have the sippy cup he could drag around the house with him while he played instead of having to stay still to nurse! Good luck! The 12 bottles cracked me up too! I'm assuming the 1-2 bottles is at night? If she does self-wean, this might be a good time to cut out bottles too and move on to cups. I know we are down to nighttime only pacifiers and it's a rough battle to get rid of all those "fake nipples"! :)  I was happy to have made it 19 months with nursing though and sometimes I miss it still, but he never asked again after the last time he nursed.
