Bringing up pregnancy during interview?

I was directed here from another board so I hope you ladies don't mind me posting here.

I have an interview on Jan 3 at which time I'll be 23 weeks and I'm wondering if I need to bring up the pregnancy during the interview (for the fact that I'd need to go on maternity leave at the end of April)?  I know that legally the pregnancy can't be used as a reason not to hire me, but in my district applicants aren't told the reason they weren't hired, we just get an email saying the position was offered to and accepted by another applicant. Although I'm more than qualified for the position, I worry that not being able to finish out the school year will deter them from hiring me, but on the other hand I'd feel badly if I were to get the job having to say "oh, by the way, I'm going to go on maternity leave at the end of April".

What would you do?

The general advice you'll find on here is to say nothing in the interview, but mention it once an offer is extended and before you accept.  That's also the appropriate time to negotiate maternity leave (since you won't qualify for FMLA).

 Good luck!

I agree, don't mention the pregnancy. If you wouldn't mention other family circumstances affecting your availability, I wouldn't mention the pregnancy. Like a pp said, the time to mention it is after you have an offer.  People negotiate a lot at that point - time off for pre-planned vacations, weddings, and yes, family leave.

Thanks ladies! The offer of employment would actually come from the personnel department, not the administration itself so I think I'd end up having to tell them after accepting the position, but I'd certainly mention it to personnel if I were to be offered the job.

Are you showing? I told them because I was showing. I got the Job too. Started last week at 33 weeks. Anyways I brought it up in my first interview. I said something at the end and simply assured them that I knew I would be returning after maternity leave and I wouldn't want any more time off than any other mom would get under fmla. I also used the opportunity to say that I knew it wasn't the ideal time to switch jobs but I was so excited and passionate about the position that I couldn't pass up the opportunity no matter the timing. Pps are right...they can't ask but I felt like it was the elephant in the room with me showing and not saying anything. Good luck!

This is the advice I would give.
