2?s - pacis and burping

1) Which brand of pacifiers work for your LO?  We were using Soothie sparingly when DS was young, and he would suck on it.  However, he no longer likes it.  We also tried Nuk and he wouldn't take it either.  He gets very fussy at times and we have been giving him our pinkie finger but this can't go on forever!

2)  I have an overactive letdown (I'm working on calming that down) so DS gulps when he nurses.  As a result, he is quite gassy.  He used to be fast asleep at the end of a feed; these days he fusses and cries which I believe it's because of gas.  He is hard to burp as well.  I've read that I should take him off the breast several times to burp him, however, when I tried that, DS screams bloody murder and cries even more (thereby taking in more air). I assume he cries so hard b/c he is still hungry?

I just REALLY sad that DS used to look so happy, calm and peaceful after a feed; now he's so miserable and fussy!  This is making BFing much less enjoyable for me.  Please tell me it will get better!

I can't help with the paci's my LO doesn't seem to like any of them.

I don't like hearing LO cry if I take him off the breast, so I have been waiting to burp him between sides, or when he slows down nearing the end of a meal.  If he is constantly latching on and off then it is usually gas and I do burp him in the middle of a feeding- usually without too much protesting.

1) My LO loves his Avent pacifiers.

2) It does get better! I too have a strong letdown - and just a strong flow in general - and there were 2-3 weeks that were SO hard. LO was crying at every feed; he was obviously hungry but was struggling so much. I tried a bunch of the tips (like letting down into a cloth, pumping before putting LO on to nurse), but ultimately I think he just needed to get a little older. Now he handles it with no problem.

It got so frustrating that I seriously considered giving up BFing. But now I am SO glad that I didn't!!!

1. DD took gumdrop pacifiers as a newborn. She wouldn't take them after about a month. Then we tried Tommee Tippee pacifiers which she didn't like. We tried Avent pacis next (not the soothies) and that is what she likes.

2. Have you tried giving your DS gas drops in between breasts? That worked very well for DD. But, I'm not sure if you do 1 or 2 breasts per feed from your post.

My LO never really liked them all that much either. She would sort of take a nuk orthodontic if you tapped on the center, but if you quit tapping she'd spit it out. She still rarely takes one but has those green ones that look like a bottle nipple that she will take at DC.
Have you tried gas drops? E used to scream when I made her take breaks too. I think it's just a phase they go through.
It'll get better and better the bigger he gets. Just hang in there, you're doing a great job!

All three of my boys loved the mam pacifiers, maybe too much.

Are you doing layed back feedings to help with your let down?? That's what helped a ton for us. Plus gas drops and time by five weeks he could handle my let down. I had an over supply that block feeding helped too.

A had horrible gas last night.  To the point that she wouldn't sleep and kept spitting up.  She could not pass it.  We called the Pedi this morning and they recommended the gas drops.  We tried it and she is back to her laid back self. I highly recommend them if you want your happy baby back.

1) My guy only would take the Mams.  He wouldn't take the Soothies, Nuks, or Avents.  So that's one to try for you!

2) I only burped between breasts, so I don't have much advice on burping during a feed on the same breast.
