Thank you note?

Kind of a dumb question, sorry.....

Are you giving thank you notes to people at work who gave you gifts. I received a few gift cards from people at work. I thanked them for their thoughtfulness when they gave me the gift....but, do I also write thank you notes? I have no idea

I gave a thank you note to those that gave me a baby present, and birthday present.  I only got a Christmas gift from the boss, and I didn't usually give him a thank you note because I got him a present in exchange.

What were the gift cards for? I personally don't write thank you cards for Christmas gifts, but for baby, wedding, and bday gifts I certainly would give them a thank you card.
