Stupid projects...

I am trying to be nice, but not succeeding. I have been informed that DH does not know how to install a garbage disposal, so we won't have one until he figures it out. Did I mention he goes into these things unprepared? I know I am going to put something down the drain forgetting and have a huge mess. I am so annoyed.

Also,  everything is covered in sawdust. I was going to make another batch of cookies, but haven't been able to use the kitchen in two days. It is a huge mess and it is far from finished. We have counters, but no back splash, sawdust everywhere and the sink is in, but still not hooked to the plumbing.

DH is at Home Depot.

Did I even mention it took him three years to install a patio? Or that he never finished painting the trim in the living room (and I won't because I'll just be criticized for doing it wrong)?  I wish we were in a position to just hire someone to do it right, but that's just not in the cards right now. First priority is a new roof and DH sure as heck is NOT doing that.

I feel your pain.  I cannot stand the mess that comes with projects because I always end up being the one to clean it up.  Probably because one of us thinks cleaning up needs to happen immediately (me) and one of us thinks it can wait a day or two (DH) which means I end up doing it either way.

The only reason we are paying someone else to build is a shed is because DH rant out of time before deployment.

Once my dad decided to tear the master bath shower out and put one of those one piece shower kits in. The shower was down to the studs and then he finds out that the shower kits are not made for their size shower. The master bath had the only shower in the house. He covered the studs with tarps and that is how we had to take a shower for a couple weeks until he had time to put in new dry wall and tile the bathroom himself.

Oh, my. I hear you. DH fixed out hot water heater about a year ago. The same problem is started about a month ago and he just keeps saying that it can't be broken again because he fixed it ... okay, you keep taking the cold showers.

We lived for a year with 3 inches of concrete floor at the end of  our laminate flooring because we installed it on Dec 23 and ran out of time for the last row, took a break for Christmas and didn't pull the tools back out for a year.

On the cleanup - can you run Ro's humidifier in the kitchen to weigh down the sawdust before you start sweeping?

The humidifier is a good idea. I will try that.

He did get the garbage disposal working, but he only has one half of the sink hooked up because the pipes don't go the way he wants them to.  At least we have a sink again.

This post makes me kind of glad that my DH is not at all handy and has never pretended to be.

yeah - it's great when you're dating and you think your boyfriend has these great skills - but all the projects are at his place. When you're married and never allowed to call a professional, totally different story!

I'm glad the disposal is hooked up!

My husband, thankfully, is both extremely handy and extremely anal retentive about things being complete and clean.  Sometimes it is annoying because when he starts something I never see him again until he is done (like, literally he will stay up until 3AM doing it).  But overall, it is nice having my geeky engineer husband who is also very talented with wood working and drywall around.  He can pretty much fix or repair anything electronic or home improvement related.

For example, we moved in a little over a week ago.  The house was built in 1902 and he has already expertly wired the house with Bose sound and I have NO idea where he has hidden the wires.

Our bathroom is still lacking molding around the floor and door frame. And the light fixture in the hallway is dangling from the ceiling.

3 years.
