NBR: Sex discrimination at it's finest...

I cannot believe that this court ruling was upheld...

http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/dental-assistant-fired-being-irresistible-devastated-151724600--abc-news-topstories.html

I don't know anyone involved, but I can't imagine that she could be legally fired without having documented warnings, reprimands, etc. for her style of dress or for not confronting her boss for his inappropriate text message and comments.  Wow...

This is one of those stories that I think the media twists a little to add shock value to it.  I think there is probably a lot more to this story than they are telling us.  They are only telling us the details that make the boss seem like a monster.  On the one hand, it could be total and **THIS IS SPAM** sex discrimination.  The boss could have fired her for ridiculous reasons because he knew if he didn't, he'd get caught in an affair.  On the other, maybe she was dressing inappropriately, showing up late every day, leaving early, not doing her job well, making dirty jokes, acting inappropriately, and making passes at her boss.  The media will only tell you what they want you to know.  And I think there's a lot that they aren't telling us.

Good point, but I would think that even Yahoo news would be responsible enough to include reprimands in their news story.  The story says she didn't respond to him in a sexual nature or engage in flirtations.
Also to clarify, are you saying that my OP is spam?  It doesn't go to any sort of advertisement or product.  It goes to a news article.  That is not spam in any way.

While this guy is definitely a Dbag, it's really, really hard to prove sex discrimination here, especially when you've got an entire office full of female employees who apparently never had these problems with him and who are all still employed. According to the letter of the law, with Iowa as an at will state, he did nothing wrong. He had a personal problem with an employee and fired her. The court says he's allowed to do that. According to the laws of human decency, though, he's scum. It's a shame she didn't sue him for sexual harassment before he decided he just couldn't keep it in his pants around her anymore. She would've had a case.

I think the spam think is something TB did to her post for some reason. I've seen posts get edited like that.

I get most of my news from Yahoo since I have an email address with them, but I always read their articles with a critical eye. They can't even catch simple grammatical errors half the time. I can't give you any specific examples, but there have been plenty of times I've questioned articles.

Also, the article states that she told him that she'd know she was dressing too sexy when she saw the bulge in his pants - that tells me that there is a little bit more to it. THAT was completely inappropriate for her to say. So because of that little snippet, I agree that there is probably more to the story Yahoo reported.

FTR - I think his text message to her was inappropriate, too. I'm not trying to defend him, just saying that I think there must be more to the story.

Oh no no, I'm not implying that your post is spam at all!  I just meant that I've seen a lot of news stories where they twist it a little or leave out important details to make the story more interesting.

He told her that.  I just re-read it to be sure.  All news sources have grammatical errors.  It's human error.  Unless it is gross misuse of the English language, I don't usually hold it against a legitimate source.
