Would you accept this offer?

I am a teacher and one of the parents at our schools is a LC.  She offered me her services for free. (I have had one of her kids already)  However, there is a possibility that I could have her youngest in the future.  Would you be comfortable with that?  I'm trying to decide if it crosses some kind of weird line or if I should accept free help.

I don't think it would be weird down the road if you do teach her youngest. Just don't have her kids around when you're discussing lactation things with her and I think you'll be fine.

I'd take her up on it. She sees boobs all the time, it's her job. She won't feel weird about it.

I teach first grade and if a parent gave me that offer I would honestly feel weird about it. Not sure why but I would. I like to keep my personal and professional life separate so maybe that has something to do with it. I think I would see how breast feeding goes for you and if you realize you need help or would benefit from a LC and your insurance doesn't cover it then I would possibly take her up on it. But for now I guess I would wait and see how it goes for you.

I would go for it. Then again I'm a labor and delivery nurse, so my own coworkers will be seeing lots more than just my boobs!!

I agree. I'm a teacher too and I would feel weird I think, but if I needed the help it would sure be nice! I wouldn't have her kids around though. Go for it!

I work at the hospital where I'm delivering, and work with a lot of people in L&D, so I'm right there with you.  It's funny to think that I could be in meetings, in the future, with people who have seen my private parts.

I teach first grade.  I think it would completely depend on the parent who was offering.  If you already "click" with her and think you could have a good relationship/feel comfortable around her, then I would go for it!  A good LC is worth a millon dollars and someone offering free LC services is awesome!  I used my LC with Nate all the time.  She was golden.  I'd check and see what your hospital offers first though.  My hospital offered free services to anyone in the community, regardless of which hospital you delivered at.  If you already get free services, then I would use a stranger.  If not, I'd use your classroom parent.  I would assume she is a professional who would abide by medical laws and wouldn't discuss your personal business outside of your appointments.  You might make a lifetime friend too.  Having other mommy friends is never a bad thing and if you do have her children later in class, you will have already established a good relationship with her.  I've had friends' kids in class before and other teachers' kids before, and it has never been an issue.

I think it'd depend on the parent.  I'm definitely one to keep my personal and professional lives separate and would be hesitant, but it would be nice to at least have her number on hand for quick questions.  I have a friend who's an LC, and I've only ever asked her questions via a phone call or fb messaging, and the advice she's given me through that was still very helpful, even if it wasn't a full on consultation.

i don't see why not. Its her profession and her choice to offer it for fee. its not like she is giving you money or anything to advertise for her to other parents ya know....

Yes, I would accept!  I think having the help of an LC is very valuable, and for free would be great. I wish I had contacted one, or known someone who was one.

All of this. And I think it would be weird to be discussing lactation things in front of someone else's kids anyway, so you should be good.

Oh, this would be waaay too awkward for me. "Worlds colliding" like they say in Seinfeld. But if you are fine with it then I don't think it's a big deal since you don't currently have one of her kids in your class. You should probably still compensate her for her time (tip her at least or buy her a gift certificate to the spa or something).
