Speaking of day care, should I be looking?

I have NO idea where I'd want to send little one, or even how long I'll be out of work. I'm trying to take things one day at a time and not freak out over everything, but I feel like maybe I'm too calm and falling behind!

Some day cares have wait lists. I'd probably start looking in the next two months but I don't really have anything planned yet either and I'm not freaking out yet...

it all depends on your area. We have several day cares in the area so I won't need to look for a bit. If you don't have a great population to daycare availability ratio in your area, I'd look sooner rather than later

I think it definitely depends on your area.  I'm on the list for one already, but I wanted to check out other centers and some in-home options to have my bases covered.  It can't hurt to start looking now, right?

I'm starting to freak out a bit as well. Looked at a few places that actually had rates on their website and almost had a heart attack. Then there's the question of would it be more cost effective for me to stay home instead of sending our little one to day care, especially if my whole paycheck would go to day care costs and then some. And I don't even know where I'll be working come June and after the little one is born as I'm in a temporary position right now (going on 8 months...).

Married since June 2008. DH - 28, me - 29. TTC since Sept 2010. Seeing an RE since March 2012. HSG was normal. Minor MFI issue and I don't ovulate on my own/irregular cycles.
May 2012 - Clomid+TI = BFN, June 2012 - Clomid+Trigger+TI = BFN, August 2012 - Clomid+Trigger+IUI = canceled due to cyst, September 2012 - Clomid+Trigger+IUI=BFP! Due 6/12/13

It depends on your area.  I know here where I am if you need child care for a baby then you need to get your name on the waiting list while you are pregnant!  Spots for the little babies is pretty tight because of crib restrictions and staff to baby ratios and such.  So - YES, you should probably start making calls next week to find out if there's already a wait list for when you expect to need to start attending.  You should at least find out.  Babies have the least number of spots usually.

I own my own daycare center, it always helps to start looking early and have a few places in mind, see what age groups they have, and if they know if there will be openings. Infants are the hardest age group to take because of the staff to child ratio, the spots fill up quickly. I have moms come when they are still PG and i have people come 2 weeks before they have to return to work. Ask around, I feel like word of mouth is the best advertising for daycare and it doesn't hurt to have someone you can say recommended you.

If you love a place, but the price is high, it never hurts to ask them if there is anything they can work out for you.I have had people ask me, and I have worked with them.

Goodluck! If you ever have any questions I can help with being in the business let me know!

It depends on the area and what type of place you want them to go to.  Some of the places around here (Chicago Burbs) that are really good and in really high demand areas have wait lists of 1+ years!

I'm not sure if I'm taking 8 or 12 weeks off. Just depends on the pay situation. Some day cares won't take an infant until 8 weeks. We started looking this month. So far no waiting lists but none crib share so only 7 or 8 in the infant room total so I can see how they fill up fast

Depending on where you live, you should start looking right away. Where my DS goes, you POAS and then get yourself on the waiting list before you even call your doctor. No joke.
