Waking up 6-7 times/night

ds is 4 months old now and still wakes up several times per night.  he eats almost every time as well.

I really don't mind that ds is waking up, but I just keep thinking that maybe I'm doing something wrong and it is actually doing more harm than good.

I am not willing to CIO, but I want to help ds sleep longer (usually can go 1.5-2 hours at night).

Eh, only a 1.5 hr stretch for a 4 mnth old doesn't sound ideal... Do you bf? Is it possible he isn't getting enough and is waking because he is hungry? You could try pumping and giving a bottle before he goes down for the night just so you know how much he is getting to rule out hunger issues... If not hunger, is he taking too many naps during the day? Or is he uncomfortable where he sleeps at night? When he wakes is he full on crying or just fussing for a minute and you scoop him up? These are just a few points that you may want to think over while trying to figure out his fussiness at night... I agree with you that CIO so young wouldn't be beneficial, though...

That was my son too.  The he wouldn't sleep unless he was latched on and as soon as he realized that wasn't nursing he would wake.  I'm not going to lie to you, things got way worse for us before they got better.  We ended up co-sleeping so that we could get more rest and slowly transitioned out of it once he was sleeping more consistently.

Is it possible that he is having early teething pains?  Their teeth move around before they actually poke through so that could be a possible problem.

How much/how often is he eating during the day? Sometimes if they're going for longer stretches during the day, they make up for it at night.

At 4 months, my son was only waking once a night, and for us, things started getting worse at 5 months. That's when he started waking multiple times a night. I think it was developmental though, because slowly but surely, over weeks he went back to his once a night wake. Of course, that was until he started teething at 10 months...

Are you still in the 4 month wakeful? Ds was still going strong 3 weeks in. He refused to nurse well during the day, and made up for it at night. It's just now getting better!

I've heard of cases where it lasted a month and a half!

I'm not going to lie, after almost 3 weeks of this poo poo I started to question if I was doing something wrong, then things started to get better and I felt confident again that it wasn't me.

Babies are weirdos. :]

It could still be the 4-month wakeful, but it could just be normal baby stuff, too.  BM process in 90-120 min. Besharing and side-laying nursing is how we've managed it with both our boys. I can latch baby on and then doze back off while he slurps and then unlatches at will.

The 4 month wakeful was rough. Good luck!
