MN help

We always loved the name Evelyn and planned to use it until some family drama thwarted us. After searching and arguing and trying to force every name on Nymbler into working, we finally just decided to use Evelyn despite any drama associated with the name. It's Dh's favorite name, I really like it, but love other names too. If I could've gotten Dh on board, there were 5 or 6 other names I would have happily used.

So when I agreed on Evelyn, I asked Dh to be more lenient and open minded on the MN since he got to "pick" the first name. Or at least picked it by vetoing all other options!

We always loved Noelle. It's beautiful, fits Evelyn, and is super feminine. But I would like to use a family name for our daughter for some reason. (Ds does not have a family name.)  my maternal Gma is Margaret. I love the name, but it's definitely not as "pretty" sounding. Plus, Dh isn't into the name as much as Noelle. But he agreed to use it if it means that much to me. For some reason, I can't shake the idea that I will be super disappointed if I don't use a family name. Not sure if can articulate why! I'm definitely not getting any pressure from family to use the name, I'm just drawn to the idea of using a family name and Margaret is the only one that seems to fit.

So wwyd? Would you use Noelle bc it's pretty and your Dh loves it. Or would you use Margaret despite the fact that your Dh wasn't totally on board and bc you feel really drawn to using the name?

I love my grandma, so I'd probably choose to honor her with the name. 

I think Evelyn and Noelle are both pretty. Maybe Noelle Margaret if you're not sold on Evelyn Margaret?

FWIW I am not a fan of the name Margaret, it is my mn and my mom's fn.  I agree that it is not the prettiest name out there.

However, I love family names and I think Evelyn Margaret is a pretty name a whole. If it comes down to family name or pretty name, family name wins. 

ETA: I am a total hypocrite because we are not using a family name for our daughter's mn because I don't think any of them sound good with the first names on our list.

Ha! We are most likely going to use the name Evelyn for the FN as well and can't decide on a MN either. I'm no help though, we are struggling with going with the exact same thing -- going with a family name (Nora) or one that we just like (such as Olivia).

We are using family names as middle names for our kids. That being said, DH is all about not doing something special for one kiddo that you didn't do for the previous so if we had not used a family mn for DS we probably would not use family names for subsequent kids. I think both choices sound fine but I do prefer Noelle.

I've been working through a similar dilemma. DS has a family MN on my DH's sides so I thought one from mine for DD would be nice. The only Amenthat semi works is Marie but I'm just not crazy about how it sounds. I have a feeling that we'll go with it in he end. MN are hardly mentioned past birth anyway.

Both of my boys have family names as mn's so of course, another vote for Margaret. :-)

I would probably push for Evelyn Margaret, if he's not really pushing back then I wouldn't worry. It's just her MN and she won't use it all that often anyways. I do love Evelyn Noelle though.

I think Evelyn Margaret is beautiful! Plus then the added perk that dad picked the first name, mom picked the MN and it means something. Win, win, win.

Evelyn. Go with the family name. It means something special - and it is also very pretty! I actually like it better than Noelle, the 'n's kinda run together... just IMO :)

BTW.. If my LO was a going to be a girl, Evelyn was the name we picked out - it's his great grandma's name. On a trip to their family cottage last summer we found that his great grandparents had carved their names in the ceiling of a corner in the house. I didn't know her name before and I fell in love with it immediately!

Wow I LOVE Evelyn noelle! So I give that my vote just because it's so pretty. I understand the desire to use a family name though, so I see the dilemma
