Moms of breached babies come in

My lo needs to where a hip brace for 22 hrs a day for atleast 2 months.  They have told us this is very common for breach babies because their hips form shallow which could cause hip problems leading to needing hip replacements in early adulthood :(  womp womp.

The brace looks super uncomfortable keeping her legs spread apart and almost in a sitting like position (but we are told it is a very natural position for babies).

My concerns...

1. She is just learning to roll over and to me it doesn't look like the brace would allow her the ability to roll over even if she wanted to.

2. Will this stunt or slow down her development?  It's not like we will finish using in 2 months and she will automatically know how to roll over and do whatever else a 7-month old baby knows how to do (she is 5-months now).  Will she roll over/crawl/walk etc late??

Any advice, thoughts, experiences, words of encouragement are very welcome.  TIA.

My DD was breech and also needed to wear the brace.  Although, my case is a little different.  She wore it 24/7 (except bath time) from the time she was 3 days old to 8 weeks so I can't really comment on if it will impede development stages.  I can tell you she is now 6 months and totally fine.  Just like any other kid her age and my doc says there's no reason she'll be any different or need special treatment.  We should just be glad that the docs caught this in the early stages as when kids get older, it's a lot harder to correct.  I would bring up your concerns with your doctor.  Maybe they have some ideas of how to help your daughter reach those milestones.

Yes, it's tough to see your baby in anything other than those cute little outfits we buy them, but in the long run, this time will be just a little blip on the radar screen. Worse part, diaper changes.  Urgh, those were a pain.

Good luck and remember, this too will pass.
