Stuttering

My MIL mentioned to DH yesterday how DS stutters sometimes. She has a lot to say about how all her grand kids are being raised so I normally ignore her. However I recently noticed that sometimes he will repeat the beginning if a sentence. I I I or I want I want I want several times before finishing it.
Anyone else's do stuff like this? His language has seemed to take off recently so it could be normal getting used to sentences but I really have no idea. I certainly don't want to ignore something if I can help him earlier.

I remember reading or being told by T's speech therapist (can't remember which) that this is a perfectly normal part of speech development and should 'go away' eventually.

May did this for awhile a few months ago. Actually, I think there might have been a thread on it and many of us had LOs who were stuttering the beginning of sentences. It's kind of a "trying to gather thoughts" sort of thing in the way you and I use "ummmm" or "ahhh".

I think I started the thread that burkems mentioned. Even kerribear chimed in, which I was glad about. I don't like always just asking you directly, Kerri! You should have to work while bumping, lol!
Anyway, Sarah does this a lot. Seems very normal. They are trying to get their words and thoughts in order.

The day you were born was the best day of my life! So in love...again!

It's normal! I read about it in Parenting or Baby Center.

My DD2 did this for a while at age 4 and again at 7. Speech pathologist told me it was developmental and normal. The last time it happened the speech teacher pull T for a couple of sessions to give her strategies. Our LO's are still too you, but if it returned it's not hard to fix. At least in my experience.

Yup Ian does it also. Like Burkems said I think they get over excited and can't get it all out at once. He will either repeat or have an extended "ummmmmmmmmmmm".

My 7yo still does it sometimes - we just try to wait until he gets his words and thoughts together. My oldest did it too.

Yes tell your family it's very normal for this age. With all the language they are learning and really still trying out sentences and phrases they're just trying to spit out their thoughts. Don't make a deal about it and just let them talk.
