Pump/bottle question

Hi all,

FTM here, planning on breastfeeding primarily, but I'm sure there will be times when I'll need to pump and use a bottle.  This is probably a dumb question, but would it make sense to buy the bigger bottles and just skip the tiny ones?  My thought process is that the big bottles don't necessarily need to be filled all the way up, or LO doesn't have to drink the whole thing while he/she is tiny.  Does this make sense at all?

 TIA

I know what you're saying but BF babies usually don't ever take more than 5oz of bm at a time.  Of course some do, but not most.

For your situation I would suggest you only buy 1 small bottle before baby is born.  Some babies are picky about the type of bottle too.  My DD only likes wide nipple type bottles (like Tommee Tippee) where my DS would take just about any bottle.

Unless you live in the boonies you will be able to get them as needed once your baby is here and you know a bottle will work.

I would just get one or two of several small bottles. DS isn't picky and liked the Avent bottles we first tried. He's 6 months and still taking 4 oz each bottle. We had a friend who took 6 oz each feeding but bf babies are different and won't typically need 9 oz bottles.

I agree that buying a few bottles to begin with will save money. My Lactation Consultant recommended the Breastflow bottle by The First Years. I purchased a starter kit at Burlington Coat factory that had two 5 oz bottles,  two 9 oz bottles and a brush. When it became clear that my little one liked the bottles and could switch between bottle and breast. I then went ahead and ordered 3 more 5oz bottles. My little one is breastfed but we have to supplement with formula. She usually eats 1-2 oz of BM and 1-2 oz of formula. I agree with the PP that most BF babies won't eat more than 5 oz at a time. I'd pick up the starter kit of whatever bottle type you decide on and go from there.
