Is this pre-e? XP

XP to March Board!

So pre-e is a BP issue right? Whst else would cause extreme swelling and nasty headaches? My BP is usually quite low (105/60 is normal for me) but recently it has been closer to 160/80 or thereabouts...Any input? Also, I am a receptionist and I have noticed that when I work long days (8 hrs) I get nasty pains in my lower right side and I also get a headache and my swelling in my lower legs/feet is worse.

Pre-E is a combo of high blood pressure & protein in urine, but can have a number of symptoms. If you BP is consistently that high, I would be calling your doctor/nurse ASAP, especially with associated pain & swelling. Pre-E and HELLP are no joke and can put both you & the baby at risk.

It very well might be. You are having a lot of the classic symptoms. I would call your OB. Hopefully it's nothing but your OB should know about this...

Ive mentioned the swelling and BP but it usually only gets bad when Im at work...I thought going to a desk job during my already high risk pregnancy (my son was born at 33 weeks) would be a good idea. I didnt realze that sitting for this long could cause problems too...

ETA: I had my urine checked last week and it was "perfect" according to the nurse!

If you don't have the protein you can still have gestational hypertension (high BP) and that can develop into pre-e and/or affect your baby's growth. I would definitely make sure you express your concerns to your doctor. 160 is TOO high. The 80 is good, but really only one of those numbers needs to be high. Especially if it's accompanied by severe swelling and headaches that tylenol doesn't help.

I would continue to push the issue with your ob. My blood pressure continually has gotten worse throughout my pregnancy. When I would give a urine sample, I never had any protein. My ob decided to do a 24 hour urine collection, and that is where the protein was found. I have since been on bed rest! If you are having all of those symptoms, continue to advocate for yourself and baby!

The pain in the right side is a classic symptom of HELLP syndrome. I had that pain and ignored it, but I fortunately had a nurse and midwife looking out for me. Go ASAP and get a blood draw to check your liver enzymes. I never had protein in my urine.
