Christmas Eve Traditions

(Liz, I know you must have some.)

Is anyone starting any Christmas Eve traditions or carrying on some from your childhood? 

We're decorating gingerbread houses tonight and I'm giving MH and V new pajamas. We're also giving V a Christmas Eve bath. I found a bath bomb in the shape of a Santa head that is red on the outside but on the inside it's green and turns the bath water that color. It might be a disaster but it sounds fun. What are you doing?

We have the "new PJ" tradition here as well.  Normally, we visit a friend's house but at an hour away and the party not starting until 7...  we're out this year.  She thinks I'm silly for not coming, but I am not messing with B's bedtime.  Other than that...  putting the kitchen set together for B, lighting a fire, and relaxing.  :)

We had our christmas eve last night since MH works tonight/tomorrow.  

We delivered presents to our neices/nephew, then came home and we all got new PJ's, we opened the last book in our advent calendar - Twas the night before Christmas, then L went to bed, we set up the gifts under the tree and relaxed until bedtime w/ hot cocoa

We do new pjs as well. Later on, they will be ok to open one gift on Christmas Eve.

In Germany, Christmas Eve is when all the gift gifting goes down. Most of the time it is also when we eat goose and dress up. Down the road I want to do that here as well. The goose, not the gifts.

We just finished baking cookies and decorating our gingerbread house.  for xmas eve dinner we are making beef wellington and relaxing with DS!

MH and I have a tradition of driving around and looking at Christmas lights that goes back to the beginning of our relationship. We started doing it to keep ourselves from opening presents early, so we plan to keep doing it with the kids. Charlie is pretty pumped about it since she rarely goes out after dark.

We made cookies for Santa today, and went to the bookstore to pick out a Christmas book to read before bed. We will also be doing new jammies tonight.

One more for the jammies tradition. Except this year DH and I really don't need any new pajamas so I just bought us new white T-shirts and wrapped up a pair of the pants we wear to bed. :P Next year I'll actually get new ones. N is wearing her new jammies now and is toddling around the house.

I would typically spend some of the day baking special Santa cookies but DH and I both woke up with colds. I've slept in and took a long nap after lunch. I told DH I'm a cheatingcheaterwhocheats because this year Santa is getting the nestle toll house pre made cookies.

We also have a candle light Christmas Eve service at church that we attended. We would typically do shrimp and crab legs but because of these annoying colds we can't really taste. I'm saving them for a time when our taste buds return.

ETA: and carrots for the reindeer

We just started the new PJ thing, only I just gave them to them and there was no opening, they didn't know the difference. We baked gingerbread cookies, only I forgot to put some out for Santa. Embarrassed Good thing my oldest is only 2 and really doesn't "get" it. We went to church, with is an important tradition I always want to do. Next year we will read "'twas the night before Christmas" but this year we were rushed so we didn't get to it.

We also gave DS a pair of Christmas jammies and a book tonight. We plan on doing that every year, just for the kid(s). DH and I wear sweats and t-shirts to bed so we won't be getting jammies. When DS gets older we'll leave cookies and milk for Santa too. That's pretty much it for Christmas eve traditions though. We always have family to visit on Christmas eve so it's a busy day and we get home late.

SInce DH has to work Christmas Eve, my parents and me decided to start a Chinese Food tradition.  I know, you are jealous.  Merry Christmas!

Growing up I had the tradition of my grandparents coming over and opening presents with them. When they passed away, my parents still gave us one present to open on Christmas eve. and lasagna for dinner

Once I got married we started the tradition of watching a new Christmas movie every year, or one we both haven't seen.  

Last year for Christmas eve my parents came over we had lasagna for dinner, watched a Christmas movie and opened presents with them.

This year with the divorce my ex got Aubriella on Christmas Eve. I haven't been in much of the Christmas spirit so I had all my wrapping still to do. I drank some hot cocoa with Godiva Chocolate liquor added to it, wrapped presents, and  listened to Christmas music.

I also had gotten Aubriella a new pair of pj's to wear to bed. I didn't wrap them since they just came out of the dryer when she got home.
