In Law Christmas Drama Vent

Ok my bil has a mean dog that I am very allergic to.  I need an inhaler and 9 times out of 10 I get a sinus infection.  We have asked them not to bring the dog to our house anymore and they got annoyed.  Now the dog needs to be everywhere that they go.  Everywhere.  And I used to just suffer.  But the last sinus infection was so bad that I passed out when I was driving and wound up in the hospital for 3 days.  So now dh has told them that if the dog is there we can't go.  He doesn't want me getting sick esp with the fertility treatments.  So we have missed Mother's Day, Father's Day. Birthdays, etc.  Because the dog doesn't like to stay at home and it has to be in the house with people because it doesn't like to be alone.  But I should suck it up and sit outside and double my allergy medication.  Doesn't matter who's house it is at because they want that dog there and they say that if the dog can't go they won't go.  And my mil wants them there because they have a kid and she wants to see her grandchildren.  Ouch.  So now I just had ET on Friday and tomorrow is Christmas and I can hear dh arguing with his mom.  She wants us to come and I should suck it up (now I am not the first dil to have ivf - the one with the dog did too - but she keeps telling mil that I am being a baby about it and it is no big deal).  And it is all my fault that the family won't be together.  He is so mad.  Usually I just tell him to go without me and then when he cmes home he has to strip and throw his clothes in the wash and take a shower like a hazmat situation.  But I am sorry,  it is not a seeing eye dog or anything, it is a nasty dog that they claim can't go to the kennel because it is too aggressive to the other dogs.  They only live an hour away so it is not like they have to leave the dog alone for days or anything.  I do not want to do anything to risk these little embies.  We offered to go see his parents today but they have plans.  Sorry for the vent but I just need to get it out of my system.

Your SIL is being really insensitive especially since she's been through IVF herself, and I am so sorry about your IL's lack of support.  But you need to take care of yourself and your embies first and foremost.    Hopefully your holidays are not ruined.  Relax and let your embies snuggle in.

2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

I am so sorry you have to deal with that.  But as PP said, you need to take care of yourself and those embies!  Even if you hadn't had IVF, it is ridiculous that they would take that stance, knowing how it affects you.  Do they know it put you in the hospital?  I say have a nice Christmas at home with YH and your embies... you should be resting anyway!! :)

good for dh for supporting you! i say stay home, put in a good christmas movie and snuggle up with yh.

they are being ridiculous and selfish.

when we caught flack for staying home this christmas, i just said to myself "this is what mh and i need to do for our health (mental and physical) in a very trying season of our life." it's ONE christmas, if they can't compromise on the dog, then they can get over your absence

hugs and support!

That's awful.  I totally know how you feel.  I never want to go to my MIL's house because she smokes.  I always end up using my inhaler a ton and feeling like garbage the rest of the day.  I wish I had words of advice on how to deal with everything but I don't.  If you figure it out let me know!!!

Insisting on taking a dog everywhere, other people's health problems be damned, is not normal and really bad behavior.  You shouldn't feel bad about sitting this one out.  Do bil/sil work?  What happens then?  The poor dog sounds like it needs training and maybe medication.  Definitely don't subject yourself to that.

WOW is about all I can say. This is the last thing you need right now. And as far as your SIL goes, it's real easy to forget all the bullshit you went through once you have a child in your arms. I hope y'all find a solution to all of this drama. Good luck and merry Christmas!

They are trying to put this BS off on you and your husband, but anyone who prioritized a dog over a human obviously doesn't think too highly of your company or their human relationships.

Sorry you have to deal with that insanity! Your health is definitely a priority, ESPECIALLY when dealing with fertility treatments. It's a shame that they are being so insensitive to what you are going through...IF is hard enough to deal with and you shouldn't have to deal with that craziness either. Stay home, relax, enjoy the holidays. They can get over it. I wish you the best!!

Married for 3 years to the love of my life! TTC for over a year. Started seeing RE in April 2012. Lap in July revealed endo covering left ovary and part of my bowels. This will require extensive surgery by a specialist. RE wants us to have babies first because surgery could compromise my ability to carry. Started first round of IVF in August. Ten follies retrieved, eight fertilized, two frosties. IVF #1= C/P *Frozen Embie Transfer scheduled for end of Nov/Dec. Going to transfer 2 frosties if all goes according to plan*
FET # 1 [12/18]: Transferred two "beautiful" embies.
Beta # 1: 126 [BFP!]
Beta # 2: 546
Beta #3: 1618!!
Beta # 4 - 4954!!!!!! Ultrasound 1/18 - Two heartbeats at 121 and 136. Fraternal twins! Um, is this really happening?!

Seriously....I know they're family and all, but I say screw them! How totally selfish and insensitive, ESPECIALLY coming from someone who's been through it! I agree with PPs...stay hoe with DH and your emblems and let them snuggle in tight! They'll just have to deal without you! Hope you had a merry Xmas and much luck in the 2ww!

Married 2007 3 Clomid IUIs -- BFNs IVF #1 never made it to transfer On "egg health" cocktail DHEA/CoQ10/FRC/Pregnitude/Melatonin Starting IVF #2 for Feb 2013 Follistim/Menopur/Ganirelix Cancelled mid-cycle due to high P4 levels early on. OCPs again for IVF 2.5 mid-March. "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." -- Margaret Thatcher
