bottlefeeding is not working and I don't know what to do

I don't know what to do. I go back to work in 1 week and we are having issues bottle feeding. It's giving me major anxiety. We started working with my DD at about 4 weeks and have always had some issues.sometimes she will take the bottle and others she will refuse and cry her head off. We've tried Dr. Browns, avent, nuk, and finally playtex drop ins. We started having success with the drop ins and now she is back to refusing them. Can anyone offer some advice? I already don't want yo go back to work and this is just making it harder!!Thanks for any thoughts.

Maybe the nipple isn't fast enough for her? Have you tried changing the nipple itself? If it's too slow, she'll realize nothing is coming out when she sucks which causes a lot of screaming. Happened with our DD.

If that still doesn't work I would bring it up to your pedi. See if they can offer some sort of advice. Good luck!

I have the slow flow on all of the bottles and she still chokes on the milk coming out on its own. I have thought about trying the brown (latex? I think like some of the pacifiers) to see if that would help.

Try these. It's a lot slower then the regular slow flow nipples. Plus, it's more shaped like a nipple, she may like it better.

I've had success with playtex vent air, wide mouth slow flow nipple. It's what my LC recommended.

Who is giving the bottle? For a while DS would only take the bottle from someone other than me. I've even heard some mom's have to leave the room or the house to get their LOs to take a bottle. If the boob is there, why would they want to take a bottle?

Well the problems happen whenever. I was at a wedding a few weeks ago and my father and sisters were watching my children. She refused then. Then she's been doing better and my DH was watching her last Tuesday - she did fine. Last night she refused my DH while I was out running errands. By the time I got home, I got her to drink some before she continued refusing. Sometimes she will take it from me (we've been trying to do at least 1 a day to get her used to it). She seems to take it okay from my MIL although not a full feeding.

Thanks ladies. This all makes me feel like a FTM (although I had breastfeeding issues with my DS and I've made it farther than with her. He, however, never had these problems)

We were having this problem for a while, and we think it was because we weren't offering bottles daily or consistently enough. We would only offer them as needed, about once a week. So every time we'd try to get him to take a bottle, he would pitch a fit for 45 minutes. It didnt matter what bottle we offered, and bottle preference didn't seem to be the issue. Eventually, though, he would give in and eat. Now that I'm back at work and he's getting daily bottles (or two), he doesn't do that anymore.

I think many babies just prefer the real thing (straight from the tap, I say), so just try and be persistent and patient. I think if she's really hungry, and as long as nothing is wrong with the milk, she will eat it eventually. But I understand how stressful it is :-( Good luck!

Definately try the brown nipples for the playtex bottles. They are softer. DS1 would not drink from any other nipple.
