What dangerous toys did you have as a kid?

We had the old-school little people that are exactly the same size as a child' s airway.

A play kitchen made out metal that had sharp edges and rust spots all over it.

Playground equipment at our elementary school was made of rough wood that we would always get splinters from. It was also on a really thin layer of wood chips that basically provided zero cushion..lol

What about you? What did you play with that no one would ever get away with selling today?

We had the old school LO people too. In fact I still have them. I let my toddler play with them now in fact. **Burns in flames.**

However, she loves them and are one of her most favorite toys so I don't have the heart to take them away.

Proper supervision and all that jazz.

We also had a toy cash register with chokeable coins.

We had an old school sled with sharp metal runners.

My brain should also be a rotted stastic according to the amount of tv my mom thought was acceptable for us to watch.

Otherwise, I grew up on a farm. We were left unattended outside for hours. My praents would be arrested now for the stuff they thought it was okay for us to do out there, muchless leave us alone. ;) We all lived. I still love them. :)

I can't think of many toys that we had that would be considered dangerous, besides the obvious Little People... which I can't imagine a toddler being able to swallow, but maybe I'm not remembering them correctly?

We were however left outside unattended for LONG periods of time. We had a forest behind our house that we would explore for hours and hours, make "mud slides", do indian tours etc. We also found an old abandoned sawmill that was about a mile through the woods, and would play on the equipment (blades and all) and pretend like we were getting sawed in half etc. Once we lost my little cousin in a pile of sawdust, couldn't find him forever (he was probably around 4 years old?) and we got really scared. We finally found him and pulled him out but never did find his pants (they came off dragging him out of the sawdust mountain). Looking back it's a miracle we survived at all.

Little people, original polly pockets with the tiny people, and we lived on a lake that had huge mined rocks brought in along the shoreline of the residential areas that fronted on the lake. We'd go down to the rocks and play on them all day. We'd get hurt on the rocks, glass, fall in the lake, find all kinds of things, etc. No one ever thought anything of it!

Lawn darts. Need I say more?

We also had the old school Little People. We had micro-machines which are also the same size as a childs airway. DS plays with those now but he is past the mouthing stage. My elementary school had a playground over asphalt. Talk about pain! You slip or go down the slide to fast and get road rash. lol.

I once broke a window with a popple....

I can't think of anything we had that was obviously dangerous.

I don't remember any dangerous toys (I didn't really have that many toys), but I swear my mother didn't know where I was or what I was doing for 90% of my waking hours. She wasn't bad or neglectful, she always just assumed I was "out playing" and knew to come home for dinner. I think that was the norm back then.

Haha my mom has my fisher price house complete with chokeable people at her house as we speak. G loves it. I did take out the baby and the kid. Because the little bugger put them in his mouth. But he still has the ever so slightly larger people. It never killed me ;o]

We also moved to 14 acres when I was 5 and I pretty much wandered around outside whenever. We live on their property now...along with coyotes, bobcats...yea. I don't see me letting my 5 yr old running around the wild alone. [I'll send the dog to protect him] ;o]

My girls still play with my 1970s swallowable little people! Were shrinky dinks dangerous? My mom would put them in the oven but I remember they would be hot and smell like plastic. I had a marble collection when I was really young too.

Lawn darts for sure. No one had bike helmets. We would be out and about for hours riding bikes and going to play wherever.
Everyone had pools and even though we learned to swim very young, we were able to swim unsupervised a lot. Yikes.

Holy crap! I'd be scared too. It's amazing the stuff we did when we were young! I'd climb up very scary trees and walk on top of the roofs of the apartment complexes behind us. And we were always left alone. All day.

BB guns, pocket knives, and that kind of thing mostly. My brothers actually used to shoot each other with BB guns, and they always were in trouble for it.
