Peanut allergy question

Anyone have a LO with a peanut allergy? My cousin's little girl broke out from head to toe Sunday night, taken to the ER and was told it was a "probable peanut allergy" since she told them she had chocolate chip cookies that were in the same container as PB cookies. She's 19 months old and hadn't ever had straight out peanut butter/peanuts but plenty of things that are made at factories with peanuts (just thinking M&M's off the top of my head) with no issue.

They gave her a steroid shot at the ER and the rash/hives cleared up by morning. Well, today she broke out again all over in rashes/hives and when she called the doctor back they said she should have got a prescription for steroids and that is why the rash came back.

Does that seem right? That she had the rash from peanuts, woke up Monday morning clear and it returned with absolutely no peanut exposure on Tuesday afternoon?

I have a peanut allergy, but I don't break out, my face/tongue/throat swell and I go into anaphylactic shock. But having a second reaction after having the epi shot, doesn't seem right. I would think it's some other kind of allergy.

I'm not sure though, since, like I said, my reaction is different. [I wish my reaction was just a rash!]

Eta: I've never had a reaction to anything made in a factory with peanuts.

I would have them contact a pediatric allergist to go over everything in detail. Better to be safe then sorry... he can also do testings.

Sometimes rashes do come back. I wouldn't assume it's a peanut allergy. At 19 months she can easily do scratch testing for allergies to see if it's really a peanut allergy. It seems unlikely from the story that it's really a peanut allergy. There are thousands of things that can cause rashes.

TTC #1 for Dh, #2 for me. HSG clear. Low AMH and endo. Multiple Clomid w/TI cycles - all BFNs. 2 IUIs with Clomid and 1 with Femara - more BFNs. IVF#1 25R, 15M, 15F. 5DT of two perfect 4AA blasts! Positive HPT at 5dp5dt. Beta #1 6dp5dt - 72. Beta #2 8dp5dt - 285. Beta #3 10dp5dt - 793. Both babies have strong beautiful heartbeats! Baby B miscarried at 7 weeks. Baby A is holding on through miscarrying her twin, sub-chorionic hematoma, and complete placenta previa. Stick, baby, stick!

I don't know about peanuts, but DS1 has a mild allergy to penicillin and he breaks out in a rash all over. That happened once and he was fine after a round of benadryl. The fact that she broke out again without being exposed to peanuts is making me think that it might be something else that she's allergic to. I would look into allergy testing to pinpoint what caused the rash in the first place.

This. Why not just have her tested. Also, didn't Hadley break out in the same rash?!? It just seems more likely it would be something they both came into contact with rather than chocolate chip cookies that were stored with pb cookies.

Hadley has a rash all over, although I'm not even sure if it's a rash. It's just her skin is pimply, flesh colored, I really feel like her's is dry skin, my gut says it's nothing to worry about. My cousin's little girl's is red hives, I was wondering if they were the same thing the other day when I posted, but after seeing a picture of her's it's definitely not the same.

My son has a ton of allergies and yes, this seems very weird to me. Once the medication has been given and the rash goes away it's gone for good.  Are they taking her for allergy testing?

I'm a dirty lurker, but wanted to chime in because I have severe nut allergies. It is not weird for the rash to come back because the nut proteins were still in her system when the steroids wore off. I had to go to the ER 3 nights in a row when I was 13 because the second all the meds wore off, my throat would close. She should definitely go see an allergist.
