bassinet to crib...

HI,

Just wondering if there's a way to make a smoother transition from bassinet to crib.  Our baby is 9 weeks and when we tried the crib, he didn't stay asleep long so we went back to the bassinet and figured he just wasn't ready yet.  Is it too early? He's 11 pounds and is growing out of his tight quarters but seems to feel that the crib is too big.

Suggestions?

oh yes.  he's swaddled up tight.  we only tried it one night because I figured, why mess with a good thing?  maybe we'll try again and hopefully it will go better.

We just crib transitioned last week and it was hell..still kind of is actually.  C fought sleep in her crib for much longer than I thought she would, it was a rough furst night.  The second day I took the crib sheet off her bed and slept on it, then put it back on her crib so it would smell like me.  I think it helped a little but bedtime has become my least favorite part of the day:(

Where does he nap during the day?  Try starting with naps in the crib.  I think you just need to be consistent at night.  Keep swaddling and if he wakes up try putting your hands on his body with a little pressure and slowly releasing it - I've heard that it helps them feel secure.

We started with naps in the crib, then swaddled them, then we rolled up receiving blankets and made a U shape and put that b/t the mattress and the crib sheet (sort of like they're sitting on a swing). That seems to help them feel a little more secure in the crib (plus we prop our cribs for reflux and it helps keep them from sliding down!).

I second the PP who said to try light pressure on them if they start to swaddle - my son startles easily and this really helps him fall asleep.
