Chicagoland ladies....and those who have switched REs

So...since it looks like my cancelled IVF turned IUI is unsuccessful and having 3 IVF attempts with my RE I have been trying to decide if it's time to get a second opinion or stay where I am.

I do like my doctor, she came highly recommended by my OBGYN and a doctor friend of mine...but I don't know if that's enough to keep me where I am.   I understand that my office needs to be efficient, but they keep information limited - alot of times just getting "things are good" or "we will see what happens next appointment."  Never knowing follicle size...estrogen levels...etc.

Just wondering (and I'm sorry I know it's been asked before) but Chicagoland RE recommendations...  Also if you have switched REs, how did that go?  I know this sounds stupid, but I don't want anyone to be mad at me!  (I know, they could careless if I leave!)

Me: 30 (hx of adhesions, endo, adenomyosis) DH: 31 (perfect) | TTC since 10/10 | 3 unsuccessful Clomid cycles after TTC for 1 year | IVF #1 8R 4M 3F - CP| IVF #2 - poor responder cx| IVF #3 converted to IUI - BFN | IVF #4 new doctor - 5R 4M 3F - beta #1 4/16: 256! beta #2 4/18: 1034. 3rd US at 7w3d shows no growth, no heartbeat| P/SAIF welcome!

I with Kaplan at FCI. I've found that you either love him or hate him and I've loved him since day 1. He held my hand when I said I was nervous for my saline sono, held my hand again when I was going under for my ER and stopped me in the hallway the other day to check how I'm doing.

ETA: His nurses Jamie and Tammy have also been really great with me and responding to messages and calling me back if they didn't have an answer to my question...especially Jamie

I go to chicago IVF-offices in warrenville,st.charles, orland park. I see Dr.Rodgers, Dr. Jain and saw Tammy the NP once.  They have been great! They have a "patient portal" so after your bloodwork and ultrasounds you can look on there to see your numbers and they also post the results of the ultrasounds (size and number of follicles).  The nurse still calls with the results, but it's nice to be able to go back and look at the info.  The doctors have all been great and I LOVE the nurses.  Definatly helped keep me calm during one of the most stressful times.  I would recommend them.  Good luck.

Diagnosed with PCOS in June of 2012 Started seeing a RE June 2012 HSG showed a block left tube Hubby's SA showed a slightly low count everything else ok Three rounds of Clomid/IUI-all three rounds IUI were cancelled because follicles never matured. I am at FCI River North with Dr. Beltsos. She is amazing, and I couldn't be happier with her and my nurse Fran. I started with Kaplan and had the worst experience ever. Fake, phony, arrogant, egotistical....not my cup of tea, and I would NOT recommend him to anyone. I won't get started on a rampage, because I could go on forever. But, switching was the best decision I ever made. I am having a polar opposite experience this round, and I feel like they are doing everything possible to make sure I have a good experience after the last one. Do not be concerned with changing clinics or doctors. You have to do what is best for you!!! And, in a strange way, you will be glad you had your first experience, because hopefully you learned a lot from it and will be ready to advocate for yourself and get the care you deserve with a different doctor. At least, that's how it has been for me. GL!

I used an old school solo practitioner RE. I did have two consults at FCI, we were 100 percent OOP for DE IVF and could not afford them. We did not care for Dr. Sipe personality wise. Dr. Kaplan really knows his stuff. I can see how some might find him a bit arrogant, but we were just looking for someone to get the job done! He allayed my fears that my RE had properly managed my first cycle, and suggested some tweaks for my FET that I contribute to my BFP.  I would not hesitate to use him, if I had insurance.  BEst of luck to you!

DOR and AMA
2/12-5/12: 4 IUI cycles = all BFN;
7/12: DE IVF # 1 (with ICSI)- 20R, 16M, 14F, 5DT of 2 blasts (4AB & 3BB); 6 frosties = BFN;
Lupus anticoagulant initially high, then found to be normal on hematology consult;
Follow up testing in September all clear;
Started synthroid for "high normal" TSH;
FET # 1- late October 2012- BFP on FRER; beta # 1- 21(low), beta # 2- 48 (still low), beta # 3- 132, beta # 4- 1,293; beta # 5- 5,606; last beta- over 100,000. First u/s 11/21- heard heartbeat
12/12- Officially an OB patient!
Level 2 ultrasound shows vasa previa and referral to MFM
Mandatory c section for delivery
Keeping fingers crossed
Everyone is welcome!

I'm at Northwestern and see Dr. Pavone but all the REs there are great IMO. My first ER, Dr. Milad was the RE to perform it and while the nurses attempted to get my IV in, he put some music on from his iPhone for me and held me hand. Also the staff is fantastic, they call like clockwork with monitoring results and give you anything you want to know....e2, follicle size, etc. Plus, I have my RE's email address and she responds even on weekends or when she's supposed to be on vacation (even though I say in my email it can wait until she returns). I'm very happy with them and they've been really aggressive with my IVF process and willing to do what it takes to get me KTFU!!!

Thanks everyone for the information! I'm currently with a doc at FCI...was looking at possibly IVF1 or Chicago IVF. I am going to make appointments for second opinions and also see what their donor egg prices are figuring my FCI doctor is going to suggest that. We are also starting our adoption applications! Thanks so much everyone, good luck to all of you!

*******ticker warning****************

I was very happy with Dr. Kaplan, he doesn't feed you a bunch of crap, and gives it to you straight but also listens and answers all questions and his nurse Jamie is great, Whitney is ok, a bit cold but i didn't care i was paying for Kaplan's expertise.

We are using Dr Jacobs with FCI in Crystal Lake.  We like him a lot.  We had to go to the River North office on the weekend once for IUI and the experience there was nothing like the Crystal Lake office.  We refused to return to River North.  Good luck to you!
