Name spelling

Help we've due in 12 days and have decided on calling our girl Emerson. I know some people think its a boys name but we don't and really like it for a girl. But because of this reason we think we will change the spelling to either Emersyn or Emersen. What do u think? Thanks.

changing the name doesnt make it anymore feminine, it just makes it spelled wrong.

You can think it's a girl's name all you want, but when a name literally means "son of Emery," there is no opinion on the subject.

If you want to use it, then own it. Spell it correctly. Emerson. The other choices make me cringe.

I'm not gonna harp on your name choice.  Name meanings make a big difference to me, but its not my child.

Spell it the right way,  the other choices just look weird.

I have to agree that changing the spelling on this name won't really make it more feminine. The literal meaning (like Addison) is masculine, however with Emerson I tend to think more of the electronics brand :(

I like the name but a slightly more feminine, similar name I like is Ellery or Eleri which means cheerful.

I actually like Emerson for a girl. I like boys names on girls. I would never use a boys name for a girl because I think there are too many gorgeous girls names out there but I don't mind if other people do. I do, however, HATE when they are spelled wrong. Spelling a name incorrectly does not make it more feminine, it just makes it look like the parents didn't know how to spell. My sister has a common girls name that is spelled wrong and she hates it. No one has ever spelled her name correctly who didn't know her well. Ever.

I don't care for crazy spellings of names, but Emerson vs Emersyn doesn't really bother me. I actually think that Emersyn does look more feminine.

I personally kind of like boy names for girls, but I agree that you should just keep the original spelling. If you must change it I think Emersen..... nope nevermind, spelling it out just made it look wrong. Keep Emerson! :)

I like Emerson for a girl too, but wouldn't personally use it because it is too trendy for my taste.  But what others said - stick with Emerson, the other spellings just look made up.

No no no no no! Do not change the spelling, please! That will just create more headaches for her in the future.

Emerson is just fine as is!!  :)

Yeah the reason "some people think it's a boy's name" is because it IS a boy's name.  I can call a cow a sheep, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a cow, everyone will know it's a cow, and people are going to look at me like an idiot.

I love Emerson for a girls name and would love to name a future DD Emerson. I would absolutely stick to the correct spelling though. As for the PP who said 'their is no opinion' - that just sounds ridiculous - ofcourse there is 'opinion' and you seem to have plenty of it!

I personally think of Emerson as the brand name on my alarm clock.  But if you must use it (and must use it on a girl even though it is decidedly a boy name) don't make up the spelling.

so if I say Bob is a girl name that doesn't sound ridiculous? You can have all the opinion you want but it doesn't change the FACT Emerson is a boy name. EmerSON.

OP I would look at the post below about "Piersyn". The y doesn't make ita girl name.

I know I am going to get flamed for saying this but here it goes. I love the name Emerson for a girl. But PLEASE do not spell it any other way. This board is so anti-boy names on girls but yet I never read any person complaining when someone uses Kelly or Ashley for a girl. Those too were once boy names and originated to be boy names. I am tired of seeing the same names brought up for little girls...Caroline, Emma, Kathryn...etc. Sorry getting off my soap box.

Just curious, why did you end up vetoing Xanthe?

And another vote for the normal spelling of Emerson, btw. Don't dumb it down.
