Mederma Horror Story

Hello Ladies!! Just wanted to let you know my Mederma Stretch Mark cream story.  Hopefully it will help someone out, so they don't end up in the same situation.  So I have been fairly lucky with stretch marks this pregnancy, only a few on my hips and lower belly.  I typically use Mamma Mio Tummy Rub, and Bath Body Works Shea Almond lotion. But, I decided to get some Mederma since I had a coupon, and heard it works wonders.  So here's what happened.

I started using it on Xmas eve night after showering.  Then used it Xmas morning, by the afternoon, my belly was slightly itchy, but nothing too noticable.  I read one of the side affects is mild itching, so I didn't think anything of it.  Used it again, Xmas night, and yesterday morning.  Well by the afternoon, I was a itchy mess, and covered in a bright red pinpoint rash all over my bump!! I felt like I was being eaten alive by fire ants!!! I took a cold shower, in attempt to get it all off, and sooth the itching.  Ugggh, by last night my belly was a mess! It was blood red, and blotchy and oooh so itchy.

After taking some benadryl, and more cold showers... this morning, the redness and swelling went down, but the itching is still slightly there.  So either my skin is way to sensitive for that stuff, or I had a severe allergic reaction.  So to anyone thinking of using this, I would reccommend doing a skin test prior to lathering yourself in it.

Hopefully this post helps so that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Wow! That sounds like a pretty extreme reaction.

I would make sure and call customer service to let them know what happened to you. It's like they will want you to send the tube in for testing and refund you what you paid.

DH and I had a serve reaction to sunblock once and the company asked us to ship it to them for testing, etc. They mailed us a pre-paid box, refunded our money and send us coupons for free product. For us basically what happened is we used the product as directed during a float trip but every time we put it on it burned like fire and caused us to have an extreme sunburn. We never heard anything out of the company to say if the bottle was bad, etc but I'm glad we took the time to send it back so they could make sure a recall wasn't necessary.

That sucks! FWIW, it didn't work for me. My hubby actually did a lot of research for me. I went through a period where I gained 60 lbs in 6 months (not preggers)!. I was in tears as I saw more and more stretch marks all over me. From what he read, nothing prevents them but to get them to fade faster go get some Vit. E gel caps from the vitamin aisle, pop them (I clipped an end with fingernail clippers) and rub it all over! It's super sticky but it really did work!

That's not good! I've used mederma before on another scar and had no problems. Everyone's skin is different.

Sounds like an allergic reaction to me. Usually I have to use products with no scent added and/or made specifically for sensitive skin due to serious skin reactions in the past but Mederma is one product I can use no problem. Everyone's skin is different, but it is always a good idea to test products on small portions of your skin first to be sure.

Stretch marks are a genetic thing, so no amount of expensive creams will really help prevent them.  I'd save your money and just keep your skin hydrated with regular lotion.

Sorry you had a bad reaction but glad you're feeling better!
