Help Zoloft Question

Okay so about a month ago I fell into a state of severe depression, I wasn't eating much I couldn't get out of bed all I could do was just stay in and cry (the father of my child decided he wanted nothing to do with us and left basically) so about a week ago I finally decided to get help for it and went to my doctor about my depression/stress and she prescribed me Zoloft for the depression. My mom is furious because she thinks its not good for the baby, I'm hearing a lot of mixed things about it and I was wondering if anyone on here was on it during pregnancy or knew of anyone who was, and how it turned out for them in the end. I've only been on it for a week and I've been feeling a ton better but I'm now worried about what the effects might be on my baby, I'm scared to go off of it though because I don't want to fall back into my depression. Any advice?

I took Zoloft with all three pregnancies and my girls turned out fine.  My doc said if you're worse off of it, then you'll do more harm to you, and that's not good for the baby.

I see a high risk doctor for other factors but he kept me on my Zoloft.  There are risks just like any medication but there are also risks to yourself and your baby if you are in a severe depressive state.  Like any medication you need to weigh the benefits versus the risks and YOU decide what is right for you.

Agree 100% with the previous 2 comments.  I was on Zoloft and went off when we decided to get pregnant, but my OB has been carefully monitoring me and said if i start to feel bad, she wants me back on it ASAP.  It is considered one of the safer ones to take during pregnancy.  So far, i have been able to stay off but it isnt easy...and i will go back on in a heartbeat if i need to.  I say good for you for taking care of your mental health...ultimately it will ensure you can take better care of your growing baby too.

I just want to say I think Zoloft is a miracle drug! I have suffered from Panic Anxiety Disorder since I was about 10 years old and have been on Zoloft on and off throughout the years and it works wonders. Being preggo I decided not to take it right now, but I have found myself experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety because I am no longer on it. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Do not let anyone make you feel guilty for this! My babies are just fine. I am on 50 mg of zoloft. If the benefits outweigh the risks, don't worry. It is also fine for nursing. Good for you that you got some help!

I took a low dose of Zoloft before getting pregnant (50 mg) and decided to stop cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant. My doctor and midwife explained it to me that Zoloft is one of those drugs where you have to really decide what danger outweighs the other. Is your stress level going to be more harmful to the baby than the potential risks of taking the meds? If you can handle it without (which is sounds like you couldn't) than I would say ditch the meds. If you can't handle the stress keep taking the meds.

This. I tried to cut my dosage months before pregnant and was a wreck. The Dr said the mother's health comes first essentially.
