Question about ovulation and AF

Hey there! Hope everyone had a merry Christmas. I am getting back into charting and everything after a week long break for the holidays. I have a question that I am hoping some of you can answer.

A little background:

I stopped taking BCP almost a month ago now. I had my normal period right after that on December 3rd. I started doing some temping and OPKs. I charted for a couple of weeks pretty good but in the middle of that I had a slight fever and hen I got a new thermometer because mine broke. So, it was good practice but the actually chart isn't worth much. Then I stopped for about a week because I was just too busy. I used OPKs every day for twice a day from about CD 3-18. I then took a break from those as well. So, on what should have been CD 24 I started my period (yesterday). This is a much shorter cycle than I am used to, but I assume that my cycle is a little weird because of just coming off BC.

My Question:

My actual question is whether or not you have to have ovulated to get your period. I never got a +OPK during CD 3-17. You would think if I had O'ed, it would have been sometime in there. I am new to all of this so I am wondering if someone can shed some light. I know that you can't tell me for sure what happened, I am just looking for some advice from those more experienced.

Thanks for your help!

You just came off of BC, you could have O'd or you could have had an annovulary cycle.

No one here will be able to tell you what happened.

All you can do is continue on to the next cycle.  Temp every day (even if you're sick and being busy isn't an excuse unless that means that you're going for several days without sleep.  If that's the case, then you have bigger issues here).  Continue to do OPK's twice a day and check CM.

It can take several months for your body to readjust, so if this was a wonky cycle, then you can just assume it's due to that and move on.

 GL with this next cycle!

No. You can have an anovulatory cycle and have a withdawal bleed, which you would mark as your "period" on your chart.

Oh, so is this what an annovulatory cycle is like? Yep, it is time for me to get back on the horse. To be honest I wasn't trying super hard because this was my first cycle post BC. I kind of just wanted to let my body figure it out before I get super strict with myself when it comes to charting. Thanks for the advice!

There is no way to know if you had an anovulatory cycle unless you confirmed with temping. It is what could have happened. Good luck next cycle.

So, just to be clear for next time. If I had been temping every day, an annovulatory cycle would not have a temp spike, but would instead just stay somewhat flat?

You might get a temp spike, but it won't stay up.
