Help me decide-carrier or sling?

I didn't wear DS.  However with 2U2 soon I am looking into getting a carrier or sling for the new LO.  What would you recommend & why?

Any chance you could do both?  I had a Moby wrap (only $30ish) and a Baby Bjorn.  The Moby was great when he was still a little bitty... he could sleep in it while I did stuff around the house, etc.  But the Baby Bjorn has proven to be essential... we STILL use it & my son just turned 1!  Grocery, DisneyWorld, church, walks... I use that sucker all the time and will be in a period of mourning when he reaches the weight limit!!!

So if you could only choose one or the other, I'd do a carrier.  Easier to put on, husbands can figure it out, goes to a higher weight limit, gives you that "secure" feeling because of the buckles & straps.

But best case scenario, just go for both!  Especially since most slings or wraps aren't too overly pricey.

Good luck, and happy baby-wearing!  Smile

Do you have a sling meet near you? The best is to try them out and decide what fits you best. We had a babyhawk for when DD was tiny and an Ergo for DH when she his 3 months. Since then I've fallen in love with ring slings so I'm hoping to use those at the start.

It's a very personal decision, unlike PP mist people hate the BB and their LOs get too heave very quickly.

Since this is my first, I am going to try both..I have a sling, Moby wrap and a baby bjorn. Probably overkill, but I have them just in case. Also, I figure DH can carry baby in the baby bjorn.

I would recommend two carriers: for the first 3ish months, the Moby. It's cozy, machine washable, and allows baby to be in an anatomic position ("froggy'ed" legs). You can get them very affordably on ebay or craigslist.

For 3+ months I'd suggest the Ergo. It's super comfy, even for long periods of time, and is very quick to get baby in/out. The Ergo pops up on babysteals pretty often, and can be found very reasonably on amazon.

I'd suggest staying away from the Bjorn. Users often complain about the back/shoulder pain they experience due to the fact that it puts the majority of the baby's weight on the shoulders. It's also really not great for infant hip development.

I highly recommend the Baby K'tan, which is a cross between a sling and a carrier.

It is basically a moby that is pre-sized for you and eliminates the need for all that extra, heavy fabric. Personally, I never could get the hang of the moby...and this made it so much easier.

DS fit into it immediately and can still use it for walks, etc, at 8 months.  I would recommend trying to find a store that carries them so that you can try them on and get one that is the right size for you, if you go this route.

Here's an example of one online:
