Nutriton lacking-- Supplementation?

Hey everyone. I'm 6 weeks 5 days pregnant, and I'm getting reeeeally frustrated reading the babybooks that talk about eating 90% like a saint and trying to "instead of eating those french fries, try fresh air popped popcorn instead with parmasean cheese, yum!!" ....um....no lol. I'm trying to eat healthy but its not going too well. Not alot of fast food and stuff, just a ton of carbs (pastas mainly). I know it's important to make sure my baby is getting what she/he needs. I was thinking about starting to take 1 Ensure everyday so that I'm getting some more vitamins and minerals.

Anyone else frustrated that they can't seem to be the saint they hoped they'd be nutrition wise during pregnancy? I don't have m/s, just alot of aversions. I don't smoke or drink so I'm healthy.

Just wondering if anyone else was feeling the same way, and if anyone has any thoughts of the Ensure idea.

Thanks!!!

Try to eat as balanced a diet as possible and take your prenatals.  You should be fine.  A lot of cereals and cereal bars are fortified with nutrients, not sure if those are appealing to you.  Or maybe mix some sauteed veggies in with your pasta sauce?  Have you tried fruit and yogurt smoothies?

First off Congrats!

I too am 6 weeks (& 6 days) and I just can't seem to keep my diet balanced. It was easier for me to eat healthy two weeks ago (before the aversions kicked in) but lately I'm lucky if I get any food down. Because of the aversions - I can't keep my diet straight so I feel ya...

The best thing I've found that has helped me is yogurt. It tastes good, is quick (so I don't have to smell the food cooking which has been a real turn-off for me) and the greek syle has a good amount of protein.

But, ya, I feel as if I'm totally messing this all up because I just don't want food and have lost interest in the healthy food. I have heard that things get better in the 2nd trimester - meaning you feel better overall. So I'm holding out hope that I can get back into a healthy diet once the adversions stop.

Good luck to you!

Ensure is full of sugar. Take your vitamins, and eat as best you can. You'll be fine.

It was a while ago but with DS my OB recommended carnation good start as a good supplement on top of vitamins that I was taking. That may be something you want to ask about?

I have an organic meal replacement shake every morning (whey protein, good carbs and healthy fats).  The are very easy to digest for me and give me a good balanced start to the day!

I read something somewhere that with the many food aversions we all experience, they said "if you are hungry, and everything is making you nauseated, except for frenchfries, eat the French fries." essentially it stated that many of your aversions will come and go, and in your 2nd tri you'll be able to down a bit more and focus more on a healthy balance, but as long as your taking your prenatals and doing your best, eating anything is better than eating nothing during your first. Good luck!!

I have been super nauseous as well, and the only thing I can keep down sometimes are my vegan protein shakes - thank goodness, since they're also super healthy and have a ton of protein (20g).  I work for the company that makes them, happy to send anyone the info - grngorgeous@gmail.com
