Spelling?

I like the name Madelaine... but I'm not sure what the correct spelling should be. I've seen it several ways:

Madelaine

Madeleine

Maddylyn or Madylyn

Madelyn

If we go with this name, I'd like to be able to call her Maddy - which I think you could do with any of the above versions. Which one do you all like best? I don't want to go crazy with the 'y' so the third one is probably out. Or is there another one that I'm missing?

My favorite is Madeleine, but I think Madeline or Madelyn would be easier on her. My default is to usually go with the most popular spelling, which in this case is Madelyn.

I prefer the traditional Madeleine vs the Americanized Madelyn.

Madeline (only 2 Es) will give you the -LINE pronunciation rather than -LYN

ETA: Have never seen the Madelaine spelling before, but agree with PP that it would give you the -LANE pronunciation.

There are rules for spelling/phonics for a reason and changing them changes the name. It doesn't just make it more unique.
