IVF in Mexico

Am I crazy for considering it? DH probably won't go for it, but it's super cheap... If you or anyone you know has done it, please share the story!

I think I'm grasping at straws now. ::sigh::

Me: 29 ~ Stage IV Endo ~ AMH .38 ~ AFC 8
AMH .97 as of 4/2012!
Him: 27 ~ perfect swimmers
Laparotomy with partial oophorectomy 8/2009 to remove cysts/endo. Stopped BC 4/2010.
Multiple clomid rounds from 11/2010 to 6/2011. ~ All BFN
IUI w/clomid 7/2011. IUI w/clomid & injectables 11/2011 & 1/2012. ~ All BFN
Occasionally using acupuncture.
IVF #1:EPP 5/2012 ~ (4R, 3M, 2F w/ICSI). Both embies txfrd. ~ BFN
BCP to manage Endo from 10/2012 to 12/2012.
PAIF/SAIF always welcome!

I know there was someone either here or 3T who went to Barbados and underwent IVF.  I also know someone who posts on IFV (who happens to live overseas) went to another country to undergo treatment.

Don't be silly- if you go on vacation in Mexico you won't NEED ivf anymore. Relaxing vacation = magical pregnancy.  Don't you know that by now?

DH diagnosed with Azoospermia in January 2012
Vas reconstruction surgery in April 2012; unsuccessful
IVF with ICSI February 2013; single blastocyst 5dt
First beta March 1 is 147!!!

We haven't, but we were considering doing it in the Czech Republic. I was quite surprised that my DH was interested in it as well. (We decided to stay in-country for insurance reasons though.)

There are a few websites that explain the process very well, just google IVF vacations and a few will pop up.
My Ovulation Chart
TTC with MFI and poor ovulation since 03/11
TCM and progesterone supplements
Early loss in 08/11
MFI Dx in 03/12 Low count, low motility, poor morphology and high levels of anti-sperm antibodies
Treated with supplements and TCM. Much lower on all factors. Count too low to test for anti-bodies
Met with new urologist 11/12
IUI #1 12/12: Letrozole + Gonal-F = BFN
DH started Clomid 01/13
New SA shows 33 million sperm! Thank you Clomid!!!
Discovered I am hypothyroid 04/13 waiting for specialist appointment
Hoping to try IUI again in July?

This is/was us. We are completly OOP and need DE. So it was something I considered and if need be may look more into.

I did not do it but I looked into it and there are alot of people who go and love it and at least you get a vacation out of it.  The only reason that I did not go is because I trust my doctor and it was not that much cheaper.  I am totally out of pocket too.  Good luck!

IVF 12-21-2012 - 2 I think perfect no matter what the dr graded them (2B)embryos transferred Beta on 12-31-12 Positve - Beta is 21
Beta 2 1-2-13 - 31
Beta 3 1-4-13 - 53
Beta 4 1/9 - 212!
Ultrasound 1/10 - Nothing completely empty uterus Beta 1/14 - 743; Beta 1/17 - 1704 ultrasound shows nothing. Officially a miscarriage. 1/21 Beta 3900 Dr. says it ectopic. Ultrasound shows a miracle heartbeat right in the uterus where it belongs! Dr. says I can be cautiously optomistic!!! Hang in there baby!

Feb'12- Clomid/TI with CD3 &21 labs(normal)& SA-count 6mil/ml,morph/motil OK-BFN
April'12 Ultrasounds,HSG -clear, slight acurate uterus
5/14 IUI #1-50 mg clomid-post wash total motile count 19.3 prometrium 2dpiui= BFN
6/11-IUI #2-100 mg clomid & prometrium post wash count total motile 17.5 = BFN
7/6 IUI#3 with 100 mg clomid, estridiol, prometrium. post wash total motile count 23.3 = BFN
8/30IVF#1 BCPs, Follistim, Menopur,Ganerelix,Novarel.
ER 9/11-8R, 7M, 5F.
ET 9/14 2 embies transferred. 1 10cell Grade 4, 1 8cell Grade 4. No frosties. BFN
IVF#2 BCPs, Follistim, Menopur, Ganerelix, Novarel, Baby Aspirin
ER 12/5-16R, 12M, 8F!
ET 12/10 5dt! 1 fully expanded blast & 1 early blast. No frosties. BFN
2/13- Saline sono revealed a polyp. All additional labwork coming back normal. Genetic screen revealed DH has MTHFR deficiency & I am a carrier for it.
3/13 hysteroscopy & polypectomy
3/27 Began working with Reproductive Immunologist Dr. Kwak-Kim. Found High NK cells, High DHEAs, slight hypothyroidism, tendency toward blood clots (High PAI-1)Began synthroid & metformin 4/19.

Well duh!

Every single time we go on vacation, our neighbour feels the need to say something along the lines of "Be careful you don't come back pregnant! Every time we go on vacation, we come back with a souvenir!" Thanks buddy. Be careful when you're out walking next time. You might run your face into my fist...

What?! You mean that's all it takes? Man, DH & I must be doing something wrong because we've been on several vacations since we started TTC and still no baby. I'm off to google "Sex Ed"....

We said if we have to do another fresh cycle we'd research this as well.

That vacation pregnancy statement makes me SO angry! That one and the just quit trying and it'll happen...grrrrr!

I love my RE so I'd hate to go anywhere else for that reason too. I think the part that interests me is that if the 1st cycle fails the 2nd one is free, except for meds which I read they are about $500 in Mexico.

Not at all! As pp stated, JPL (justplanelove) cycled in Barbados in in spite of a BFN, had a really good experience. She shared a lot of the details back in Sep/Oct on 3TC and her blog. I believe she and DH are pursuing adoption so you may find her there. I'm sure she would be a great resource!

Yeah, I did a lot of reading last night and it seems like the little bit of savings wouldn't be worth the amount of time I'd have to be there. The forum I was reading on was a Canadian one so I don't know if they get more PTO than the average American, but there is no way DH can take 3 weeks off of work! Plus, he would never agree to let me go first (alone) and then him show up for his part. Argh! I wish there was an uncomplicated and affordable option!!

Hi DP! I think it's great that you are thinking about all kinds of different options. Personally for us, I don't think Mexico was on our radar, but I was very interested in the Czech programs. As PP have said, I've also read many success stories through Czech IVF and Czech donor egg cycles that were incredibly affordble (with a great vacation included.) People seem to be big fans of it.
Me (31) DH (35) - Finding our path to baby #1
Me: POF/DOR - AMH <0.16, heterozygous c677t MTHFR
DH: Severe MFI
12/2/11 - IUI #1- BFN
8/1/12 - IVF #1 - Zero response from max stims (600iu intramuscularly)
My ovaries seem to be just for decoration

12/6/12 - Adopted five embryos that had been frozen for over ten years!
2/11/13 - Thawed four, sadly two didn't survive. Transferred two beautiful blasts.

2/16/13 - First BFP of my life!
3/27/13 - No heartbeat at 9w0d. D&C the following day.

4/23/13 - Matched to adopt five new embryos!
