TTC 16 Years!

Hello, ladies! I have a neat story for you all:

I was at the bank yesterday and as always was carrying the munchkin on my hip, doing all things one handed. The teller asked me how old he was, and we made the usual baby small talk: "he is 14 months" "oh, how cute" "do you have any children"...

Anyhow, the teller has a daughter just a couple months older than DS. After she asked me if he is my first, I asked if her daughter was her first too, and she said yes, after 16 years TTC!

I told her congratulations, and that that is amazing! She said that they "had been to several doctors" and that all of them couldn't figure out why they weren't getting pregnant. Apparently both were healthy and fertile. And here's the most incredible part: they had apparently given up TTC for nearly a year and their BFP was a surprise!

Such a cool story, I just had to share. Have a great night!

I think for some people (but not all people of course) not trying really does work. That's awesome that they did have a baby :) I can't imagine trying for 16 years!!!

Congrats for her. Very neat story. It makes me wonder her age 16 years is a long time.

That's a great story!

My sister tried for 81/2 years. She had testing done, was on femera for a bit, but nothing worked. Also, her husbands SA was not very promising. Long story short, they moved in with my parents (June or July 2011) to save money and due to issues in their apartment (mold). I was living in PA at the time, my parents came down to help us move back in Aug 2011. That weekend was the weekend that my sister finally conceived.

She now has a 7 month old beautiful baby girl!

I think because it took her so long, it's helping me keep perspective and not get too bummed that I am still trying.

It took my sister 8 years for her only...I can't imagine and hope I don't have to...for her it happened after they weren't really trying too. She'd had all kind of treatments and then she quit her great job and two weeks later got a BFP!

She looked like she was in her late 30s...maybe 40, so I would expect that they started TTC in her early 20s.

This is a great story, and definitely amazing to hear of someone having success after such a long time.

I hate to nitpick, but I just have to say it - just because tests come back normal does not mean that a couple is "healthy and fertile." In fact infertility is generally defined as being unsuccessful at getting pregnant after a year of TTC. While about 90% of the time, the cause of infertility can be identified, in about 10% of cases, there is no explanation for the infertility. It is an official diagnosis - Unexplained Infertility. Again, I am sorry to nitpick, but as someone with Unexplained Infertility, it can sometimes seem like our stuggles our minimized because people say "Oh - so nothing's wrong." when in fact, we just don't KNOW what is wrong.

Anyways, please don't take my commentary personally, just wanted to put it out there. Either way, it was a great story, and is encouraging to hear of other's success. Smile
