Any Coffee Addicts???

My RE is calling Jan 9th my D Day, bc I will pretty much stop everything (exercise/alcohol/caffeine, etc) when I start my stims. Soooo, I wanted to know if any of you are/were huge coffee fans, what you did to stop? I hate to sound like I have a problem, but when I wake up, coffee is the 1st thing I make. I'm not worried about giving up alcohol or anything else, but coffee gets me going in the am and gives me a lift, if needed, in the afternoon. TIA for any ideas or suggestions?

Okay...Mr&Mrs.D, this is SO WEIRD... (As I sit here drinking my morning coffee!) I was logging in, thinking OMG I need to post about when to stop drinking it! Creepy!

LOL - anyway, I started my stims yesterday, and I hadn't heard about stopping coffee while on them until this?!? I totally agree, everything else will be a breeze to stop, but coffee; yikes. (Obvi if I get preggo I'd stop) but I was unaware about stims!

I would suggest weaning yourself...go half-caff, then 1/3 caff and then decaff and then none. Part of my coffee habit is the act of drinking coffee and the other part is the caffeine. Kind of like a smoker who keeps candy in their pocket to help with the urge to put something to their lips. Stick out tongue To be honest though, I have to do it cold-turkey or I'll keep "treating" myself. A little caffeine here, a little there and pretty soon I'd be back in the habit!

I gave up caffeine in September before we started our first IVF and it was hard, but not as hard as I expected. I would definitely suggest cutting back now though. I started out with cutting out all caffeine except my morning cup of coffee, and then eventually stopped coffee too. In the morning I will usually drink a hot decaf tea or coffee, which helps and makes me feel like I'm still getting my fix!

For me the hardest part wasn't the mornings, it was more 2 or 3 in the afternoon when I would crash that was hard. My body is definitely used to it now and I don't have that feeling of hitting a wall. Since our first IVF failed and we have taken two cycles off I have definitely cheated here and there with the caffeine, but it's been easy not to full blown relapse haha!

It is not as hard as you think it is and you will be able to do it! Find a yummy decaf substitute and good luck!

Mine was a morning frappucino and mealtime iced teas. I cut everything out as soon as we started Lupron to give myself time to go through withdrawals before starting stims. I had to just cut it cold turkey but I made sure I had plenty of Sprite, bottled water, juice, etc to have some variety to drink and "trick" myself when I wanted tea and started drinking chocolate milk or caffeine free hot chocolate in the mornings to mimic the flavor of frappucinos.

I am like so many of you.  I think I make that cup of coffee in the morning mainly because it's just what I want to do.  I don't really know how much that caffeine really helps me anyway.  I also have a coke zero at lunch time, every day. This summer when we did IVF #1 I quit everything pretty much cold turkey a few days before stims. I didn't really mess with decaf coffee.  Did have to give in an buy a bottle of decaf diet pepsi. I needed the bubbly taste. I like the idea of smoothies and decaf hot chocolate (didn't know that existed!)   I start IVF #2 stims on 1/5 and plan to do it again.....soon (my morning coffee is sitting next to me).  It's hard, but worth the quit for a baby!

I was so excited to find the decaf hot chocolate. Look for Nestlé brands. The box will say 99% caffeine free. :)

Just called my REs office - nurse said "ONE cup of coffee a day while on stims is fine, but if you're the type of person that will drive yourself crazy double guessing if it's okay or not, then don't have it"

I flipping LOVE coffee. I love the taste, I love the smell, I love the comfort in a cup in my hand. When I decided to cut back for treatments, I started with the half-caff k-cups and a decadent creamer which completely satiated my need for my coffee. After a couple of weeks of that, I had tea and only decaf. And now just decaf. Good luck. Some REs don't even mind it in small quantities, but I personally wanted to cut back to nothing.

Giving up coffee I think is going to be hard for me. One of my neighbors bought this stuff called Pero http://www.internaturalfoods.com/brands/pero.html which I tried, and it does kind of satisfy some of the craving.

I'm a major addict....like drinking it since I was 8years old addict....my RE said moderation is key. If I'm used to slugging down a pot a day (not that anyone should be used to that) then a small cup is probably not harmful. I save the real coffee for bad days but mostly just switch to decaf while on medicated cycles and during the 2ww. Yesterday I had a "coffee fest" in honor of starting stims tonight....I can't tell you how many caffeinated cups of coffee I had, LOL too many...
