Carrigan - Honest Opinions PLEASE!

I know you ladies can be brutally honest & if a bunch of strangers think the name is complete crap, then I can assure you that my family will too!

PLEASE give me your honest opinion of the name Carrigan. Our last name starts with a "K". I've loved the name Carrigan since I heard it on Casper (haha!).

Thanks a million.

Oh & if it makes any difference our daughter's name is Ada.

I was going to say this before even reading your post. It just makes me think of the mean lady on Casper. I don't like it.

It sounds a little clunky to me. Would it be for a boy or girl? It sounds pretty masculine, but looks feminine.

And in all honesty-since you asked for it- Carrigan Kennedy/Carrigan King/ (just throwing "K" names out there) most names that have the same sound in the first and last name sound sort of cartoonish to me.

Thanks! I asked a co-worker & she made the "yuck" face!! haha
She also said it reminded her of a dog's name. Scratch that one off the list :)

I really appreciate your honesty

Not a fan,  I would think it was a last name you heard, don't remember it from Casper.

I might like it okay if it's a family surname, but as a random pick I'd find it really odd and clunky.

I really dislike it. It makes me think of Nancy Kerrigan and cardigans. Just doesn't seem like a first name IMO.

I can't get Nancy Kerrigan out of my head.  Or the family from some old 80s drama, the Carringtons? Was that Dallas?

But, I'm automatically against it because I'm not a fan of the hard "K" sound in general.  So Carrigan plus your last name would put me over the edge.

Thanks everyone! We just found out that our new baby is a girl. We had a boys name picked out (we were certain it was a boy... not sure why!) and used the only name we truly love on our first daughter... coming up with something comparable is SO hard!! I was going through names in movies & remembered this one! Thanks for the honest opinions, it's definitely off our list. I probably won't even mention it to the hubby!!

Clunky is the perfect word.  It's clunky for a first name.

It makes me think of Tonya Harding and the Olympics (even though it is spelled differently.)

Is this for a boy or a girl?  If I were Carrigan my my sister had a pretty girl name like Ada I'd feel like I got the short end of the stick.

LOVE.  I have no associations with it.  (Casper - do you mean the friendly ghost? Never seen it.)  I think it's a great sibset with Ada.

Edit - wait, you mean for a girl?  Noooo.  Love for a boy.

I think of Nancy Kerrigan. Carrigan, spelled any way, would make me think trashy. I always think random last names sound a little trashy/hokey.

Ada is so pretty. Carrigan seems awful by comparison.

My husband really likes this name but he wants to spell it Kerrigan - yes, like Sarah Kerrigan from StarCraft.  I don't love it but there are people out there, my hubby, who love it.  I don't think it's terrible but it's not on my list.

while I think that there are many many worse names out there its not my favorite but I don't think I would side eye it.  It makes me think of a rich lady going to the country club with her polo sweater tied around her shoulders.

This exactly.  I am not a huge nay sayer on celebrity connections but the only time I've never heard the name Carrigan before is on Nancy Kerrigan.  I agree with the pp that Carrington is prettier as a first name, but I'm still not a big fan and I feel like it doesn't go very well with Ada.
