Insurance- teachers

DH and I are teachers in the midwest. While our single healthcare plan is good, it is around 750-800 to add family care. We pay out of pocket for a plan for DH and DD. DH also keeps his single school insurance because they don't offer anything for dropping it.

To add family health to my insurance is even more (I teach at a different school).

Because of my pervious health history, it is outrageous to add DD to a policy attached to me.

SO- when LO #2 is born...any idea if it will be cheaper to just buy the family care? I have no idea how much it will be to have two babies and my husband on a policy together. When I called to ask, they responded with "We aren't sure".

I really wish there was another option for us, but we are at a loss.

Is that 750-800 per month? Per pay? Per year?  It is hard to give advice about insurance, as every plan is different, because of deductibles, co-pays, premiums, etc.

Per month, also per pay as we get one pay check a month.

co-pay for single and family is 15. Deductible is 1,000 for family and single.

DD&DH insurance co pay is 15, deductible is 1500 and is 270 per month. No idea how much it is to add another baby.

Do you pay per member on the plan or is it a single plan and then a family plan? DH gets his free, but it's the same cost to add 1 person as it is to add 10. Some plans make you pay per member though.

It may be a good time to call around to new companies too and see what they can offer you.

How much are you paying for just YH and DD on the additional plan?  I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to just add your LOs to YH's plan at work and drop him from the extra policy.

Ours is the same. It's 750-800 (I don't remember the exact number) to add family...which could be DH and I OR Dh, me and 200 children.

I am on a teacher contract in a school district in MN. Every year or two we get an insurance update from our union when we are going through contract negotiations with the most updated rates for medical and dental. One person to contact for rates would be the person at your district office that handles employee benefits. S/he would definitely be able to tell you the family rate.

Ditto regarding calling your HR person.  Although rates may go up next plan year, they could tell you what you'd be looking at this plan year.

I have an educator's state plan.  Our rates are such that I pay a set amount for DH, a set amount for 1 to unlimited children, or a set amount for DH + 1 to unlimited children.  So, we'll be taking the big jump in premium with LO#1.  After that, insurance cost stays the same no matter how many we have.
