I thought about blogging for a long time too before I finally decided to just take the plunge and do it. I just started a couple of weeks ago to document our Embryo Adoption journey: http://www.wishingonasnowflake.com
I have been friends with a blogger of a big-time embryo adoption blog and she has been giving me tips recently now that I've started my own. I asked her how to get more readers and she said the best way to gain followers is to participate in ICLW on Stirrup Queen's blog. It is a week long and happens even each month. You sign up and the stirrup queen blogger will post a list of IF blogs that are participating and then you are supposed to visit and comment on at least six blogs a day. Also, you are to post on your blog each day as well as a way to allow people to get to know you and your journey. You can sign up for January in a week or so. You can find more info here: http://www.stirrup-queens.com/2008/06/icomleavwe/
Good luck and I look forward to following you!
ETA: My friend also advised to keep your blogging seperate from your real life (facebook or advertising with friends/family IRL) if you want it to be raw and real. If you blend the two, you might run into offending people or having people leave you comments that you don't want. You tend to cenor yourself if you are close to the people who are watching you. It's easier to be real if you keep the two seperate, but you can do it however you like. I see some validity to what she's saying and I'm choosing to keep mine away from family and friends so it can be a real outlet for me.
